Broken box corners..... How to repair?

i have also found that turn buckles with jam nuts, bolted with plates underneath, seems to work great. i have done alot of miles with the deck and never seen a box crack. would like to see pics when done

It’s the upstroke that is damaging the box. Turn buckles might help with this. Best thing is to transfer the weight to the frame directly.

be very difficult to get all the load onto the frame without changing entire sled deck, then ramps would not fit underneath.

going to see what the welders say.

Got the truck back today. Very happy with the fix, they built some super strong brackets and welded to the frame in the front. Bolted in the rear.

Cost $1250 but I won't have any more box splitting issues

They weld on the frame? You can’t weld on a frame of a vehicle without proper procedures. Hope the shop is certified!
Was done by a certified shop in Spruce Grove.

What's the downside to welding to the frame?

Heavy duty truck Frames are heat treated so welding is a definite no no. Im not sure about pickup trucks. Aside from potential electric arcing and damaging electronics, if the frame is not heat treated, than I cannot see why not.

They definitely had both batteries disconnected, and they do lots of custom work on trucks and heavy equipment. I'm not going to stress over it.

Cracking, the weld puts a stress point on the frame, changes the heat treat and the ability to flex. Doesnt mean you will have a problem, but a good idea to keep an eye on the area around the weld for awhile. Also should give her a shot of paint, the welded area will rust very fast if not.

Was just reading that yes. Applies more to heavy duty trucks not pickups. And yes it's going to get some paint and some spray can asphalt undercoat

They are certified for frame modifications? I wouldn’t worry about the electronics of your truck, there’s thousands of welding trucks out the that get welded on every day. It’s the weld it’s self and the way it’s done. And from what I see things should of been done a bit different. The square corners are a real no no. If it cracks that’s where it will be. I think I would be going back there asking to see there paper on being certified. And don’t let them show you there cwb certs, cwb doesn’t care about that type of welding. It will be a Transport Canada cert. if that was behind the rear axle or the spring mount then it would be ok. But with it right in the middle is cause for concern.

I probably would have done 4 weld nuts / nutserts and bolted them on, but that’s just me. Be happy, you now have one of the most securely mounted decks out there.

19+ram/chev and Nissan trucks for a long time made from uhss, that’s a little more work.

It's a 13 Ram. And I left it up to the shop they are the experts. Not me. I'm just a parts technician.
