Looking at a new equipment trailer 18'-20' 2x7k axles and trying to nail down which brand to go with as there is endless choices.

Looking for maximum payload, but at the same time a trailer still built heavy enough to stand up to the weight, but not overbuilt it can't haul anything. 50% of the time it will be fully loaded with my mini hoe, probably 40% of the time have a 9,000 CTL, and 10% of the time light misc stuff. Don't want to go with 8k axles as they are just absolutely insane in price to buy and maintain, and 3 7k's the trailer needs to be 22' in length and I know it will go through tires, etc like mad and the smaller trailer will get around much better.

The only musts on the list so far are self adjusting brakes. I see a few brands like double A use standen axles compared to most use dexter, anyone have any experience in the difference in quality? What about price of parts?

Brands i'm considering right now are diamond c, southland, double a, load trail, pj's. Considering the cost of these trailers isn't bad at about $5500,6000 I have no problem spending the extra money for better quality.

I’ve worked on the H&H and they are well build same as the PJ”s, the SWS are cheaply build and off shore axles that are hard to get parts for

Just went through this as well and ended up with a
https://canadatrailers.com/
18ft triple axle 7000lb axles .
It rides 70% better then the Trail tech with two 7000 lb axles . Lol It sucked empty .
With only 14000 lb I was just about at max with 10800 lb unit so wanted some extra carrying capacity and so far I will take the trailer tire wear over the negatives .
Try to avoid sharp turns . :)

Have a look at the Brandt trailers, we’ve bought a few now and they are well built. A little pricey but we’ve got such a mixed bag thought we would see what these can do, hauls the CTL’s really good.

I looked at Brandt and very nice trailer but just about twice the price is what they quoted me from comparable trailers .
$14000 for a 14000 lb flat deck and not a tilt either .Crazy IMO .

JFK $14k for that trailer? How do they ever sell any? I don't care how well built it is, it's not worth double. I can see 10-20% if it's really good, but on such a simple trailer there isn't that many different things.

Precision and H&H both seem good, just no local dealers stock much, or any that i'm looking at so kind of difficult. I won't even consider SWS, seen the garbage they make first hand. My gooseneck is SWS and has been good, but still the 7k's aren't self adjusting and they aren't even any cheaper then the other brands who use dexter. I looked at canada trailers, my brother bought a 3x7k in the spring and it's not anything great. Plus the 3x7k won't back up worth a chit. It's a 22' bumper pull and I can back my 30' gooseneck with 2x10k into tighter areas without a problem. No self adjusting brakes, didn't take long to burn tires off of back axle (don't think they lasted 10k), and by then the brakes also badly needed adjusting and both fenders have fallen off as they are very poorly put on. And they are the same price as others with self adjusting.

I am highly leaning towards diamond c, trailtech, or southland as flaman stocks them and has offered me a very fair price taking my gooseneck on trade. I checked with load trail dealer and they aren't interested in trade ins. Saves me a lot of hassle selling my trailer, as long as i'm getting a decent trailer at a good price from them.

I have been really happy with Certified Custom Trailer out of Edmonton. On my 3rd trailer with them. Only reason I'm on #3 is because first was stolen & #2 was too short & too light as my needs changed.

Their web site is crappy, but they build really good trailers.

I have a Load trail 20' deckover with double 7000 lbs axles. Use it to move my seacans, telehandler jibs and baskets. Pulls like it's not even there as for any trailer if it's not loaded right kicks like a mule but just need to be careful with loading and I've never had a problem after loading a few times and figure out what works well for the trailer.
