Have not found a tire thats good on ice and deep snow . Have had ice tires but sick of getting stuck so easy in soft snow . So went with duratrac with studs good in deep snow but **** on ice . Good luck 6

Cooper Discoverer tires are great in the snow and when studded great on ice as well. The wife and I both have them. Hers are studded and mine are not. You can tell the difference for sure.

Truck doesn't move unless the sled trailer is attached.

Tires are inflated as per manufacturers specifications.

Measured off the new set and they are wearing evenly.

Just the way they are designed I guess.
Great hwy/city tire for the first 50%.

But for $2800 I expect more.

I'm with Ric. Every set of 10 ply I've had on a 3/4 ton, if you run the inflation anywhere near their spec, it'll wear the center of the tread off. That rating is to cover their butt for someone loaded to the balls, all the time. Unless you have one big snot clobbering trailer with a pile of tongue weight, anything over 50 psi is too much.

it really looks like the tire wear is over inflation... I would suggest dropping the tire pressures to 45psi... Your probably running at least 60psi, right? If you drop the pressures to 40 - 45psi, it will help with the middle tread tire wear, unless you've got a load, then you have to pump them back up.

Thats just the way the Hakks wear. I am about to finish my second set off here in the next few weeks and I have tried running anywhere from 40-60 psi with the same result. I run a 1 ton dually duramax and sometimes loaded to the max but more then not empty. They are a great tire as stated but only till you hit about 50%, then the performance fades fast. I am currently trying to decide on my next set to get as I am tired of these things lasting 2 to 3 seasons tops.

That’s the problem with most of the winter tires for any vehicle. Only the first half of the tread depth is the softer compound. The coopers on my half ton are like that. Supposedly Michelin are the softer compound all the way through but not many people run them on trucks. What would be interesting is to hear from guys that are still getting good performance out of their winter tires that are over half way worn out. I guess running studs would help that problem out.

I usually stretch my Hakks out for two winters. End of the second year they aren’t superb, but still a world better than lots of M+S tires on slick roads in the cold.

they are pretty poor for between season/breakup type icy muck after winter #2

Thinking of getting into a pattern of selling last years set every fall and getting a new set every year

I've done it but not with those tires. Just siped the center lugs so the stud holes maintained integrity and weren't sliced and diced. Could also have the 50% hakk's siped as well. I might try that next year actually.

That's a good idea doing the center only.
Who is able to do that?

Kal-Tire told me they would only sipe new tires cause of the rocks in the existing sips wrecks the blades.

I would love to get these bitches siped immediately.

Kal used to do worn tires, just charged you to pick the rocks out. Pretty common on big rig steers to sipe a few times.

Kal tire is a joke... bought pro comp AT xtremes with the intention of siping for the winter and they said yes they will sipe them used. Brought them in the fall to sipe and dropped the truck off for the day to get the work done. Went to pick up at the end of the day and nothing was done. Went inside and talked to the first available person to be told we dont sipe used tires... i asked to speak to the manager who had a look at the tires and agreed they could be siped but the machine is currently broken.....errrrrrr

Duratracs can’t be beat for all around traction and mileage and if you want ice traction too, just stud em. Every other tire fails miserably in either the deep snow or ice.

Love mine , till about 40-50 % wear , then the ice and snow performance deteriorates rapidly. Had a few sets, still have em but mandatory to take em off in spring , and even then if you do lots of ice/gravel their longevity is not that impressive.

Really, had a set that came with my 2017 1 ton durmax from the factory, have 33000k on them and there done. Very noisy and rough riding. There all season tires with a snowflake, i drove on them on the first few snowstorms and had to put truck in 4wd to stay on the highway.
Big difference between all season tires with a snowflake and Actual winter tires just my 2 cents.

I was told when I changed out my tires Ron, that there is a big difference between the same tire bought aftermarket, and the tire that comes from factory on the vehicle. Even though the brand and make are the same they say that the manufacturers pump out large numbers of the tires for the Factories (GM) and tend to pay more attention and put more care into the tires sold aftermarket at OK Tire, Kal Tire, etc.

No its true to a point

The Costco tires are so much cheaper like b.f.g for example there compared to tire shops prices

Costco buys the ones that don't meet quality inspections for looks, balance e.c.t
They don't balance good ( meaning too much offset weight or runout) compared to the same tire a shop would get from say trican

Same as crappy tire and a.c delco spark plugs, where you can get 2 for cheaper than 1 from napa e.c.t parts stores, they also don't meet quality inspections
