Having a issue with rock bouncing off the tow flap on the truck and chipping the bumper on the truck. I’ve tried rotating the flap so there at a angle. Making sure there is 4” of ground clearance when loaded..nothing seems to make it better. These are similar to the rock tamer flaps. I was thinking of mounting them below and ahead of the rear bumper like the picture. I will make sure there is 3-4” of ground clearance when load so not to kick up rocks. Also thinking of installing a 4” wide piece of mud flap on the inside which would deflect any rocks. Just clamped a picece for visualization... Thoughts?

For rock protection when pulling a towed vehicle behind a motorhome we always had better luck with the "hula skirt" style of rock guards as they seemed to absorb the inertia of the rocks instead of providing a hard surface for deflection. Mounting further forward of your bumper should address most bumper impacts regardless of whether you use hard rubber or hula skirt.

I will snap a photo of my homemade set up as its coming off today and I leave it on all summer, too lazy to take it off once its on and I tow the trailer enough to leave it on. I will not be running it during the winter though as the skirt style results in frozen clumps of snow sticking to it and my truck already has enough balls. But I had the same problem with rock tamers and I was pissed, they were previously on my truck with chrome bumpers and I never noticed it did it but with painted bumpers in one trip there were a couple of hundred dings on a brand new truck. They sit too far back. Mounting it on the receiver bracket works well and limits where deflections can go.

I agree on the skirt style, parents use it 10 yrs to Florida on motor home and very little dings

Thanks for the feed back fellas. So I’m going to try this. Bought some cheap princess auto truck flaps and hacked them instead of the good ones.
