Lots of good info on bringing vehicules up here, I've brought 5 trucks, a car and a bunch of equipment in the last 8 years and the rules are constantly changing, unfortunately for the worst. I used to do everything myself, you can call RIV and they are quite helpfully, you can even run serial numbers with them ahead of time to confirm eligibility.
There are some critical elements to get your purchase across the border including notifying the port of entry 72 hours prior to crossing, original title is an absolute must, US Customs will have to stamp the title before you can approach Canada Customs to enter.
I have two strong recommendations;
1) get a custom broker involved from the start, it's the best $450-500 bucks you can spend.
2) choose your port of entry carefully, whether you choose to believe it or not some ports are much easier to deal with.
( doesn't matter if your paperwork is all correct, some of these people can be a***holes).
North Portal south of Estavan is one of the friendliest in Western Canada, Emerson Manitoba is one of the worst,
these are just my personal experience's.
Ive found some great deals south of the border but it takes some work to get them up here.
Good Luck!!
