Sled Deck Rebuilt Questions

just tore the decking off my marlon deck i purchased 5 years ago. its time to replace it along with fix up some of the wiring.

what has everyone been replacing their decking with? i was thinking just pressure treated 3/4" ply? but if there is something better i am open to that aswell. i was kind of hoping there was some sort of 3/4" plastic material you could buy....

on a side note this deck has been awesome structurally for how cheap it was! and actually cant complain about 4-5 years of deck life either.

also where can i get a more industrial strength turn buckle? seems the home depot ones are garbage...more for tightening your cloths line than holding your deck down

I used half inch treated plywood when I redid mine, probably should have used 3/4" but it held up fine. I also painted it with some kind of grippy deck paint that had sand in it for a non slip surface. as for good industrial turnbuckles go to Northern Metallic

I redid my deck 2 years ago with weatherproof plywood and it's already falling apart. It came with marine grade plywood that lasted 9 years. Next time I do it I'll use Plastic or higher quality plywood and linex it.

I put regular 3/4 plywood down Sean and painted it with good quality paint (both sides).... it's due for another coat of paint now......

While you have all the plywood off, inspect all the welds, if you find any cracked, I suggest taking it over to Neil and having him take a look at it, he fixed mine up, and did an awesome job.

As for the turnbuckles, I've bolted mine thru the box of the truck, I don't use the turnbuckles. But I would go to a company like Continental Chain & Rigging and see if they have better quality turnbuckles for you.

Super slings or MacMor for the turnbuckles. Get the Crosby brand or equivalent

3/4" pressure treated plywood, and paint it with the gritty paint, black or dark grey(melts the snow/ice off it quicker).

Like said super slings or any nut and bolt plate that specializes in fasteners will have good turn buckles. Make sure they got a jam nut! But like Tyler said bolt the deck down. Use plate as a big washer then you will never have an issue. Or instead of turn buckles I would use heavy duty ratchet straps. Just as tough and less chance of coming loose

X2 on the 2" ratchet strap on the front. Works great, doesn't come loose and bolt the back down.

3/4" ply select or better and paint with an oil based paint. Diffence in price of 5/8" or 1/2" isn't worth talking about. Galvanized turnbuckle from a marine supplier. Use split loom on wire traces where possible. Definately check for cracks and add doublers / reinforcement because it will likely crack in same spots again.

A composite board is defiantly available some where. Looks the same as that Trex composite deck material but in 4x8 sheets. But the carbides will still carve it up so you still need super glides or an equivalent to keep it looking mint.

Full lotus uses it on their decks. But it is not as rigid as plywood. The framing underneath does the support.

I think I also remember m-line advertising a product called infinity board for redecking, Check their web site. Was Not cheap though!

Turn buckles from any fastener shop like edmonton fasteners. I got less sway movement with turn buckles that when just bolted down.

M-line has the infiniboard. I have it on my deck and it's awesome stuff. Believe it's $850 to do a deck with it. Nice part is he uses one big piece for the main part of the deck.

Why the phuck you need turnbuckles or bolts. Gravity is a great load securement device.

Mline uses infiniboard or something it's a compesitr decking ,obviously more costly but lasts forever apparently

I'd go with some kind of synthetic for sure. Even the marine or pressure treated plywood doesn't seem to last. Pay for it once and be done. You'll recover some of the cost in a higher resale value if you decide to sell it.

My Marlon deck is all aluminium planking... not sure what it's worth but you may want to get a quote from a dealer - works great and never needs to be replaced.

I've heard from a few people that tie downs have to be metal,crazy cause strap in good shape has better rating,maybe they think ya gunna leave it in the sun for 5 years.
