Bad day on the groomer. First the computer on the snow cat pooched and had to be taken to Calgary to be reprogrammed, then this. Trail is groomed from town to the carson warm up shack, and from the shack to this beaver dam east of #8 on the map. As soon as the fluids are changed and some repairs on the drag are completed, grooming will recommence. Funny, they crossed the Athabasca but this damn dam broke.

Please post when the groomer is back in operation..

That Sucks. Groomers are heavy and at times they prove it. Beaver dams are bad because the beavers are always working at them and water seems to always flow through them. It is very important to never even ride your sled around a beaver lodge or area where their food is stored. As a club the riders should always pack the snow down on the lakes or sloughs before the groomer even trys to go over and always drill a number of holes along the route before the groomer hits the ice. A number of years ago when Les was grooming the fort trails he sunk his in a small slough. The slough had a gas issue from rotten vegitation that didnt make good ice Les found the spot and down he went 3ft deep just enough for the motor to be under and all hydrallics and pumps. Not a good way to start the year. So any riders out there that ride Whitecourt at all buy your trail pass from them they are in need of some money for repairs.

Snow Conditions December 28 , 2006

The trails to Silver Summit and to the Eagle River Staging Area, the Athabasca Loops and all Town trails are groomed, with over a metre of snow. Trails to Virginia Hills and from Athabasca to Swan Hills will be groomed shortly. Caution is still advised at all creek crossing locations, and also petroleum and forestry activities.

Trail Passes

Trail passes are required. Cost for 2006 - 2007 Trail Passes

- $60.00 per sled for the Annual Trail Pass
- $70.00 after January 1st, 2007
- $15.00 per family for the Trailblazer's Annual Club Membership

Where Does Your Trail Pass Fee Go?

- $21.00 per TrailPass goes towards Alberta Snowmobile Association Liability Insurance for Trail System and Trail Signage
- $12.00 per Trail Pass goes towards Alberta Snowmobile Association Administration & Trail Signs
- $22.80 per Trail Pass goes back to the club that sold the TrailPass
- $4.20 GST

Grooming Costs for the Trailblazers is approximately $17.50 per mile. (Please note that this takes into account equipment depreciation, however, our groomer operations time/labour is on volunteer basis, otherwise the cost would be approximately $27.50 per mile).

Each Trail Pass sold essentially pays for 1.3 miles of trail grooming! The Trailblazers currently maintain roughly 200 miles of trail system in the Whitecourt area.

During the 2005-2006 season, over 1,252 volunteer hours of trail cleaning and grooming were acheived!

went and rode the whitcourt trail system on the 23rd and after 40km the trail ended due to active logging. Can you still go to silver summit from whitecourt?

Rode some of that trail today. Met up with some guys that said they did the Silver summit before Christmas. Talked to our trail boss, he said you pretty much just gotta skirt the loggers and pick up the trail on the far side. there is an ungroomed section before the Tom hill Tower road but you should be able to go all the way.

rode on sat dec 30 left the park at 6:30am after tim's of course. Staged from whitecourt put 100 kms on two 07 summit rev demos.
trail was 5out of 10. found some cutlines with 16" of un touched powder. good practice for sled control as we were having to dodge wood. gas leases sites where good for jumping and carving.

the two meeses didn't mind nor did all the bambi's.

p.s. the black lines on the trail map are the trails not the red linesn

better sigenage for trial passes need talk to a couple that thought the the govt payed for everything.

Hey everyone, cleaned the silver summit trail from Tom Hill tower road to groat creek warm up shelter. Also installed signs in that logging area. Looks like the Edson gang had the trail groomed right to the Tom Hill tower road. Should all be good to go.
