This just came thru from the CAC

Dear CAC Collaborators,

We are experiencing some avalanche activity that is giving us some continued concern for Fernie Lizard Range in SE British Columbia based on the following factors:

A Special Avalanche Warning ended Tuesday, since then there has been additional 45mm loading of the snowpack.

Forecasters are still seeing some deep avalanches in the Lizard Range outside of Fernie, and want people to keep on their toes. Our concern is not high enough to reissue the special warning but we need to help amateur recreationists understand that the kind of avalanche danger associated with the previous special warning doesn't suddenly go away. Backcountry travellers should be taking extra precautions and leaving a generous safety margin in their activities.

We are concerned about the treeline area between 1600 and 2000m elevation. All aspects are affected.

Our messags for managing risk:
Avoid big open slopes with the potential for wide releases.
Keep well back from runout zones.
Stick to ridge tops and low angle slopes in the affected areas.
Travel with experienced people who are actively thinking about managing this kind of avalanche situation.
We will be spreading this message through media outreach and grassroots contacts over the next 24 hours. Any help or feedback is appreciated.

Regards,

John Kelly
