Low lake levels close some Alberta boat launches

EDMONTON — The Alberta government is warning boaters about low lake levels that have closed boat launches in provincial parks this long weekend.

A lack of winter snow, and even less spring rain, have led to drops of as much as a metre at certain boat launches.

Due to safety risks, motorized boats cannot be launched at the Figure Eight Lake and Queen Elizabeth provincial parks near Grimshaw, the Saskatoon Island provincial park near Grande Prairie, Hillard’s Bay provincial park near High Prairie, Thunder Lake provincial park near Barrhead and Coal Lake North, near Wetaskiwin.

Boats that can be launched by hand or can be walked into the water are still allowed.

Warnings about motorized launches are being issued for Pigeon Lake Provincial Park, near Wetaskiwin, and Minnow Lake, near Edson.

heard about this yesterday for up here, the lake (Lac Cardinal) is down to it's lowest levels in 20 years. might not have to winterize the boat this fall....

Got notification by E-mail a few days ago from our community in Pigeon that the launches were closed.
Good thing they kept the Golf Courses open!!!!!
