Son has a Polaris sportsman 400 ho it an 2008 if I leave it longer then a week or so the battery goes dead and it's a bugger to boost cause the battery is up under the fuel tank. I Evan pull the key and turn off the kill switch has any one had this problem or know somebody. O ya Polaris says it is normal

Yup totally normal. Also expect your brakes to last two days of hard riding(ahem.. driving). If it has a backup pullstart, expect it to not retract soon as well. Oil consumption should also increase soon too. ;-))

Had one of these. The batteries last about a year at beast. Go to Battery World, pick up their best one... Do NOT buy one from CT !! They are absolute crappy Chinese battery knockoffs. Before installing, add cable extensions and bolts to the front storage area to allow boosting and charging. I dont know what Polaris was thinking when they stuck the battery above the motor and below the gas tank. @#*~! frustrating to work on.

I know of 2 side x side from Polaris that have battery problems as well, they are near new. Maybe a lithium ion battery will help from superclamps.

Got the same quad, same year, same problem. Pulled a lot of hair out trying to figure it out and lost in the end. Ended up putting a switch directly off the battery, doesn't charge if you forget to turn it on but the quad can sit now without the battery dying

I bought a sealed battery and ran the wires up to the rear storage box where I mounted the battery that way I can pull it out in the winter and take it home my quads have to sit in storage all winter thanks for the help. I did find that the winch will draw power of time

If you have a clock it will always draw power. If your winch is drawing power when it's shut off you have a problem with your contactor

quad batteries got to be put on a trickle charger about every two weeks... to keep them full.... charging systems on any quad is not that good... if you have a standard water or even a sealed battery... they are the worst... getting a AGM battery like a DEKA or odessey is the next step up... they also need a charge now and then... and if your want the best... then look at Earth X batteries... lithium and very light but expensive... and hardly ever needs a charge...
now that said you must have a draw somewhere in the machine...
if a battery never gets to be full then you will eventually lose a cell... and then the battery is toast...
