Next door to my neighbor...
So I just replaced a front outboard CV joint on my Sportsman 500. After I was done putting the bands on, I noticed there was grease between the boot and the joint on the big end. The band is on properly as I used the proper tool to tighten it but I am still able to rotate the boot around with some effort. I tried sliding it down and there is no way it is going to come off. Just wondering if it will be ok to run this way or if I should get another band and try clean all the grease out from in between the boot and joint?

If you cant pull it off should be ok the grease just lubes it and makes it easy to turn, I,v done a few of them with grease getting on them and haven't had any problems down the line.

Nope will fall off

Boot and joint has to be grease free

Meh, not always. I've done a few that got a little greasy and got away with it. Just need to keep an eye on it.
That said if you haven't got it on the machine yet it may be worth your while to get another band, brake clean on a rag and clean the inside of the boot and the knuckle to get a good seal.
