this is the thing with Viper.... when Moto Allaince got started with the Viper Brand... they where going thru a testing stage.... i had one of there original made winches.... they constantly improved with time.... my first winch made it like 2 years and then it bit the dust.... i phoned them and they replaced the winch for free.... even shipping was taken care of .... now that i have this new one for 2 years now it is going strong.... one thing that i seen with my eyes when i opened up the first winch i bought to see how the brushes where cause it did not work... there was no mud, no water and no dust inside the winch after 2 years of rideing...

the runva winch is a wide spool, you will need a mount for a wide spool winch, i'd suggest maybe a 9000# winch lol. j/k

suspect that a 4500 lbs winch is sufficient , as that is what brp supplies with an commander xt and both machines weigh in just under 1300 lbs each

Runva is there own company as far as I can tell, based out of Ontario, and the have free shipping on all there winches in Canada

good to hear they took care of the warranty. I'll have to contact them and see if they will do the same for mine. 2 of the 4 magnets inside the motor housing came off the housing and aren't glued to the inside of the housing anymore. Also the brushes were crumbling and the springs under the brushes were corroded and snapped

This is what happens to the windings on the armature when they get hot. It actually melts the copper.

That looks nasty, van you tell me why the gears inside would fail? Touch of a pull or line jerk?

Breaking gears, drums or housings are usually caused by off line pulls.
Birds nest wire rope is another big cause as the wire gets wrapped on top of itself and you can double the pulling resistance. It also causes flat spots, kinks and frays which all add to the pulling force. You should always try to rewind your cable or rope evenly back on the drum and make straight line pulls if possible.
Especially when using a snatch block.
Synthetic rope is the best in my opinion as it is easier to look after for lazy a$$es like myself. Lol
I would rather have a beer than wind my winch cable back on smoothly lol
If you really want your winch to last , use the other guys !! Lol

I have absolutely no problem with recommending a runva winch. Put mine through the paces, never missed a beat, would have seen any flaws in it's performance. And for the money may be the best buy out there.
That can be done without a winch but takes a SCARY amount of liquid fire.

so far the 4500 runva i v
have has been good, pulled myself out a few times last weekend also a few others. the best? dunno, the most powerful? dunno. the longest life? dunno. the cheapest ? dunno. am i happy with how it performs, price, pulling power? yes yes yes. would i recommend or buy another one ? yes yes.
