Kids dirt bike. Next size up

Has a 02 Honda xr70r.

What's the next size up in bikes. Seems it either jumps very small ( ttr 110 ) or much bigger.

Rides the 70 good. Just grew so much this winter bike is too small now.

How old is he? If he's good on it get him a Cr 80 or something like that. Then it should last a few years.

He's pretty good. Was thinking of trying to stay with a 4 smoke.

But ya a cr80 or there abouts.

His bike now is a semi shift.

Was thinking of trying to stay semi shift for one more bike.

But he might have to learn to clutch it in this step also.

Kx85

The neighbor kid had one a few years ago...I rode it and it friggin hauled the mail! Six gears of wahoo! I even teased my other buddy and told him it was faster than his yz134, he did not see the humor hahahaaa! Good luck buddy!

I went from a pw 50 to a cr 60, then to a kx 80. I feel that if he can balance and ride the semi auto well, you might as well put him on a full clutch bike. I took my younger cousins crf 150 out last weekend and couldn't believe how much more go it had the our old 80s .

KX65, good way to transition and not scare the pants off him with an 80 or 85 cause those things friggin rip.

Go to a Cfr100,sell the 70.He can ride the 100 for a year or so and sell it with minimal loss. You can pick up a nice used one for $1500. That's what I did. Worked out perfect!

Honda also makes a crf80 that might work for ur boy.

Had the same problem, and ended up going from Honda CRF 70's to a 2-Stroke KX65. Koubalink makes a lowering linkages if it's still a bit to tall. The 85's are REALLY tall & a large jump, so that wasn't an option for us.

Other option I was considering was the Kawi 110L - looks like it might be a good option if you want to stay in the 4 stroke world & about same $$ as a 4 stroke 80.

After looking at a new crf80 I think that's the next step up.

The ttr110 are the same size as the 70 he has now.

The crf80 is 2.5 inches taller.

Have to bring this thread back up. My little guy is on a KTM 50SX right now, he is getting a bit big for it now. My questions is, do I go KTM65 or KX65 and save a few bucks? Can anybody tell me if the KTM is really worth the extra cash?

KTM just has lots of good performance parts on it right from stock. If they are riding on the track the KTM will be better, other than that I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Kawi...

I did the XR70-CR85 jump when I was younger though. Was a big jump, but taught me respect for a bike in a hurry. Also taught me to shift my weight when stopping, not relying on being able to put your feet down which was good for the jump from a 85 to a big bike.

My boy is 8 and sold his 50sx this year as he decided he was ready for the crf80. He was able to hold it up so I showed him how clutch worked and he never looked back. We only ride bush trails so the 4 stroke is great. Probably only has burned 2 tanks of fuel this summer. The KTM was 15 km and empty. Was an insane little race bike though if you were a track rider.

We ride trails mostly aswell, yes the KTM drinks fuel. How is the suspension on the CRF80? I wish somebody made a 4 stroke with good suspension
