Time to upgrade the battery in my Outlander. Getting tired of limp home mode when winching. I'm thinking of going with the PC680 but wanted some opinions before I bought one. Some people say the Deka is comparable?

Also, Where is the best place to buy Odyssey powersports batteries in Red Deer or Edmonton? Seen lots of places with Deka but not so many with the Odysseys.

Thanks

I put a deka in my 750 king last summer after having battery issues when winching and haven't had any since. I picked it up at the battery doctors on the north end of red deer

Here is the low down on batteries... First of all i have a Deka in my 2010 renegade and the reason i have a Deka is they make a OEM size so it fits in with out modding....

Now i used to run Odyssey in my sea-doo's that i used to own.. excellent battery and if you compare the two closely you will find that Odyssey seems to be the better of the two in most
respects..

that said, it does not come in a OEM size and very slight modifications must be done so it fits the can-am's... and really imo i dont think your really loosing much going Deka over Odyessy...

i had 6 years experieince with an Odyssey and now also 5 years with a Deka..... there is a distributor in calgary called East Penn Maufacturing ( they are Deka ) and cheaper than if you buy of
retail place like the battery shop or something like that... 135 bucks compared to 185 plus gst... or more....

BUT IF YOU REALLY WANT THE BEST BATTERIES then look at Shorai USA batteries or Phontom .. these are litium ion batteries and cost a bit more but are day and night to even Odyessy or Deka
also if you would wiegh them.. my deka is 15 lbs... the equivelent in the Shoria or Phontom is 3 lbs...

this will be my next battery if my Deka ever goes, which i dought.. thats how good they are... but if you dont mind spending money on the best..go Shoria or Phontom... same batteries.. we inn calgary have a Phontom distributor...

A regular charger work on the lithium or do you need to buy a charger? What about the quad charging system ?

Have a read here.. lots of answers on the batteries... and yes you can use a regular charger as long as it does not have a desulfation mode that you cant shut off.. when you read you will see the details.... what i found interesting was that the colder it gets the longer you leave lights and such on before trying to start the vehicle.. it adds much more power to the start and keeps the battery in good shape too... like leave lights on for 4 to 5 minutes at -17C to make battery perform better.. unreal...

interesting read....

really? Yeah if you go read the question and answer thing it say that battery needs something to draw on to warm it up like i said... maybe it wont be the best thing then..
just found this out now.... have to do more investigation, i guess....

stick with my Deka for now.....

Lithium-ion or lithium-polymer batteries do not like the cold, the colder it gets the less they can discharge.

yes thats what it says in the link i posted for questions and answers.. but they down play it somewhat and say its not a problem if you run things like lights first....
so i dont know now how true this is and if it matters that much.. till i find out i am sticking now to my battery

the now battery light could still be set off, even with the Deka or Odyessy.. doesnt mean the battery is low, just that the draw pushed the battery to the ecm trigger limit and on the light comes..
but it happens way more with a stock battery.. you have to remember that our charging systems suck... our bateries don't start charging untill 3000 rpm.. so you see the delimea..

With that said though... with the light not coming on as often it also helps with limp mode issues not happening as often. :)

Have you experienced winching while on the throttle being improved? I know some suffer from limp mode between using the winch and trying to give throttle(with hand warmers and headlights off). Would be nice to be able to get some rpm while winching. I guess if I guy just got on the throttle hard and started to winch? Never tried that hahah.

What is everyone paying local(alberta) for the Deka's and Odesseys? I have found the Deka's for 139 and the Odessey for 155
