Went on a a 3 day quadding trip with a couple buddies a couple weeks ago and I took my almost brand new 2012 Brute with me.

We pulled into this small clearing and I parked my Brute on a hill with the front of the Brute on the low side. When I started the quad 10 mins later the CVT light was on and the machine was in limp mode. With under 200 easy kilometers on the machine I figured the belt was just fine. I went through the following procedure:

"To reset, turn ignition off and pull cvt cover. Put switch inside cover back into "on" postion. Remove seat and disconnect the 2 connectors grey and black and reverse them. They are located if sitting on quad in right rear corner. The grey one is not connected to anything, it's just a reset plug. Grey into black and black into grey. On top of the CVT cover is a black connector that goes to the switch inside the cover, disconnect that at this time. With the 2 still reversed and the black one disconnected, turn the key to the on, but don't start the quad. Observe the belt light. When it stops flashing really fast and starts flashing slow, the belt light is reset. Turn key off, and put the 2 connectors under the seat back to their original connectors and plug the connector switch for the CVT back in. Your done"

I skipped the step where you Pull the CVT cover and flip the switch it fixed the machine altogether. It did the same thing the next day when I parked on a hill with the front end on the low side. I love this quad and I just want to get rid of this goofy problem. has anyone else had this problem on a 2012 or any other year Brute?

I'm going to get them to look into it for my 10hr valve check and I'm going to make it perfectly clear right off the bat that I don't expect to be charged for it or I won't be a very pleasant fellow. Those guys at Acheson Cycle works seem ok. We'll soon find out.

I ride with srdscottsrd and what he does when this happens is take the seat off and under the seat is a grey clip with some wires in it that are not attached to anything they go back into the clip. Take that clip apart and under the seat there is also a black clip that looks like the gey clip. Take the black clip and unplug it and plug the grey into it (the grey clip is some sort of reset clip). Now when u have the grey clip pluged in turn the ignition on and the cvt light should be flasshing fast. then if i remeber shut the ignition off and u hook the black clip back toghether and u should be good to go.

i have the same problem with my brute. Its a 2012 and with just .5 hours the cvt light came on and went into limb mode. I was wondering if you took yours in yet and what did they say was the problem? I did the steps you told me about with the reset plug and it worked but everytime i shut the bike off and would start it back up the same problem would accure.

I know this a new machine but is it possible that the belt deflection needs to be adjusted, the reason i ask is my 08 belt was a bit loose and once i adjusted this it stopped triping the switch inside the cover.

Buy Yamaha!!

Wow that's a pretty intelligent answer,.. if I wanted a Yamaha I would have asked about one. I have a Yamaha already that has 7yr old technology and 5 years behind everyone else. You can only get so much power/torque from a 1 lunger, will Yamaha ever change, who knows who cares, but I refuse to wait around for them to do so.

i kind of dig the 80"s ape hanger handle bars. lol and no yamaha doesnt answer to what ppl want to see in a product. they build what they figure you need.

Yesterday I went to get the dealership, my Brute Force 750i 2012, I was far closer to refuel and put it away. Today when I wanted to give back, the light flickered CVT vehicle and walked over 10 miles per hour ...
I tried resetting, but surely I'm doing something wrong, and that I can not fix it ... or disconnect the plug right in the drive or I have little time with the ignition on ... I do not know ...
But if you find out any solution to this problem, I beg you do know me ... Thanks!
Greetings and sorry for my "google-english"!

I just bought a brand new 12 brute force 750 and didn't make a full hr when I shut it off and my cvt light came on I took it to the dealer they reset it and told me it was normal ???? Hmmm not to me it isn't so he showed me how to reset it I took it and got almost another hr on this brand new machine and every half hr it will come on if I shut it off and restart it up wtf is wrong with this ? This can't be normal I now have about 11 hrs and 90 miles and have reset the cvt now about twenty times in two weeks on a brand new quad I'm ready to take it back and leave it at the dealership I just paid 10 grand on the quad and about 2 grand on accessories this is bs don't you agree the bad part is I love the quad it's awesome once I got the 1.5" wheel spacers on it it really handles a lot better I think like it was supposed to . I put 26 inch executioners all the way around a atv radio a grain gps with ram mount I'm already in to deep lol

Belts are way too loose on almost every '12 Brute Force out there...... Would not surprise me if actual belt deflection shut you down. A buddy of mine and myself both have '12 Brute Forces...... neither have thrown a light surprisingly. The friends has more miles than mine and you can tell the belt is loose just in how it rides. Mine is okay...... but I am willing to bet money if I check deflection it's too loose.

He is getting a puller and some other crap with a gift card he had so we will both remove at least one shim and tighten the belts up.

The dealership should do this as a warranty item..... My dealer is too far away for me to be bothered hauling it to them. That said I will probably clutch mine at the same time anyhow.

If the belt was actually the problem, in the cases described above, wouldn't the switch inside the clutch cover actually be tripped?

If these guys are simply resetting the code, and they do not have to flip the switch back, then I don't think it's being triggered by the belt.

Also, if I read this correctly, all of the cases outlined, only happened when they turned their machine off, and back on again. I know I'm riding a much older Brute, but when mine tripped (actually tripped the switch), I HAD to take off the cover and switch the switch back, before the reset would work.

Maybe the belt is just barely touching the switch, but not quite enough to trip it all the way?

This is another problematic spot for them as well. You say you are running a radio on it.... From another forum multiple owners using the cigarette lighter for the radios and other power drains were having issues. It seems to be a charging system related problem. Because every single one of them disconnected the additional loads on their machines and the problem never occured again. Try not using the GPS, or the radio and see if the light continues to come back.

My 2013 just had the cvt light come on but i have no other problems such as limp mode or anything else other than the light on. My quad has over 100 hrs now so i think its just that dummy light re set that has to be done like all other brute force atvs when they get over 100 hrs???
