I think my winch is pooched and I am thinking on getting a new one, I would like a warn XT30 or maybe thinking about a Ramsey, Does anyone know of any good deals or Ideas for a new winch.
I am sure with taking some time I will be able to fix my old warn 2.5CI winch, but maybe time to upgrade.
Thanks

if you already have a warn, you can get a replacement 2.5/3.0 for over $200.
now that's just the winch, no wire, no switch, no solenoid, not even the deckle.

They are fairly simple to pull apart, clean, and re-assemble. If you are unsure, just phone Warn, and they will email you a breakdown on whatever you have for a winch....it makes it really simple to do yourself.

If you must get a new one I would reccomend a VIPER ELITE. they are really good winches and moto alliance (the mfg) is second to none to deal with! I traded the standard 40' of 1/4" synthtic for 50' of 3/16" synthtic so I could get the extra reach. (not many objects to winch to here)

In Edmonton you can get the replacement winch at Interior offroad or Drive Products. They come as bare as possible not even a sticker on the winch.

I agree with zeebs, I have a 4500 lbs viper winch on my RZR and am very happy with it, I wasn't to sure before I bought it but was impressed immediately. Shipped to my house was only about $300, and it came with lots of extras, it also has a 2 year warranty, I highly recommend it!!

X3. I've been running a 4000lb Viper on the Ranger for 3 years. It's been through hell, and never missed a beat...$320 shipped to my door from Moto-Alliance.

just ask you local warn dealer about a replacement (PN 74915)
Warn Industries - Winches: Replacement Winches

what happened to your old 2.5 ? some of the time all they need is a good cleaning and re greasing.

The winch just clicks, so I decided to take the motor cap off to check the winding to see if it is cooked , looks ok just dirty so I cleaned it out, but not sure if I should put dielectric grease into the motor to keep the winding from corroding, but I tried to put the cap back on and I can't get the 2 bolts to thread back into their holes. I have another question I hope you or someone else can help me with, if I have a 2.5ci warn can I upgrade to a xt30 and use all my wires and connections, I hope so because I want to get one before the weekend, planning on a trip to maclean on saturday.
thanks for the help

Yup, the new winch will work with the older 2.5ci system. I've installed rt25's, xt25's, rt30's, and xt30's into 2.5 or 3.0 locations. No problems, just wire up blu to blu, yel to yel.

When u say ur winch clicks, u mean when u hit in or out, all u hear is clicking? Have u applied direct power from a battery to the winch terminals on the winch, to see if it actually is the winch clicking? if u apply power to the blu and ground out the yellow, does the winch move in/out

Another way to check to see if its ur winch or the contactor box is the testlite method. Hook up the test lite to the blu terminal of the winch itself,or to the blu terminal on ur contactor box, when u hit in, it should lite up ur testlite. Then check yellow, when out is pressed, is there power at the yellow terminal of the winch/contactor box?

If all this checks out its ur contactor box. This little box is usually the culprit for clicking sounds are heard when upress in or out.

Hey thanks for the help and info, but I think I am going to price new winch today because I want to ride this weekend, plus my winch motor cover is off and the screws won't go back in to hold the cover on, do you have any hints for this issue, everytime I put the bolts into housing they get pulled towards the magnet so I can't line them up to holes.

BEFORE you order the winch, at least do the electrical checks he's told you about. The only thing worse than buyin a new winch, is buyin a new winch ya didn't need !!!

when u first removed ur motor, did u notice if the nuts for those bolts fell or are still in place? I just took one apart for chits and giggles and the nuts fell into the drum, buy the planetary gears. u might have to take the motor side completely off ande regrease to hold nuts in. Ur gonna have to take iot apart anyways to get it back tiogether properly

Not sure if it's the "correct" type but used maxima waterproof grease when I cleaned my winch in the fall. Seems to work fine and won't wash out or get diluted if your seals fail.

Hey Fellas

I was riding this weekend and when I started out my 2500 warn was working fine. After the first mudhole the "out" switch stopped working, I could free spool and pull in which was okay at that point. The next mud hole however the "in" stopped working as well. Sporadically throughout the day the "in" would engage but never the out. I am not getting any noise coming from the solenoids or the winch when I engage it. I have checked most of the connections that I could get to in the dark so I have to admit that I haven't excluded all of the connections yet but has anyone seen this problem and am I wasting time looking for lead problems and could it be a pooched motor.

Thanks
