Tires

tires are kind of a pain for us Canadians. firstly they have to be available 2ndly they should be somewhat reasonably priced.

You basically get stuck with few choices

Outlaws - Expensive / wear poor - perform great in extreme conditions.. burn off belts (ive seen 1 -2 go on BF750's personally with these tires).

Zillas- wear well - good in hard bottom hole's but dig dig dig sink in skeg from what i've witnessed.

Vamps dig even faster / harder .. decent wear.

executioners .. good bead lock good tread good wear no side wrap treads.

Grillas new Silver backs.. don't know much about them don't actually know if they are available in Canada either .

those would probly be your top mud tires going out there that you could get in canada.

after that you have tires like

MST - Highlifter tire.. good all around
mudbug maxis - good all around
gators (GBC)-similar to mudbugs
589's always good tires always wear like iron aswell.
and then another class imho

Trail first mud 2nd tires ..

Mudlites. all of them decent in mud not great because of tires gumming up /not cleaning fast enuf. good trail / sand tires.
swamplites - good hard bottom dig hard like vamps but have NO paddles so in silt / sand they are worse by far. they also break up skeg bad.
mudwisers by Goodyear very close to mudlites.

those are prettymuch the choices available to you.

Ever look into Mud Machines these tires come in three styles and are not very popular but are a real amazing. I even run a set of just the at's on my Kfx700 (sport quad) and the end result is better than anything I've ever had. Great hard surface traction and very good cleaning in the mud. Been on two years of abuse and hardly any wear showing and no punctures.

I run Executioners, put them on last spring, very happy with them. While there is no actual side lug, the tread sticks out some, acting as a side lug.

Those tri claws look cool. thanks for the link. I had a flat on the gooseneck trailer today and i was lookin in kaltire at some tires. I seen these mudcats there and they make them up to 27" and they are cheap. I meen all of them for under 400. They also have a good tread, its about 1.5" deep and they look mean and theyd clean well.

I'll Doo my best to avoid the Pinecones... but from what I have heard, from your experience on the XP, You ride WAY above the tree line, right? So how can there be any Pinecones?

It seems like every weekend we're out we have low visibility so we've been doing lotsa boondocking in the trees or should I say "pinecone dodging".

Back to the topic. We went out for a creek ride on the quads and WOW was that fun. With studded tires and a small windy creek with no snow on it you can just fly. Every once and a while we'd come to a beaver dam and I don't think anyone in our group would even let off on the throttle. It costs about $80 to stud 4 26" tires, well worth it. If you haven't done this before I highly recomend it.

Ive got 27-12-12 maxxis mudbugs heard they dont make em anymore but i luv them soft on trails and deep lugs for great digging. not too bad in snow either.

I had the mud bugs. They were a good tire, but they only got about 700km and they were bald. And ive put 1100km on my vampires and they show no wear yet. Thats why im lookin to see what everyone is running

Boondocking in the trees has always been the best part of mountain riding from my experience. When you ride a hybrid sled, playing in the trees and meadows provides a way better experience then trying to make pathetic high mark

my tires on my bike in my avatar are mud machine BI/Tri Claw Magnums.

they are or were at least a little on the hard side of getting and were pretty expensive to get shipped here into Canada. that said the new Zillas look to be just as good for all around tire and probably cheaper to get.

I like my 29.5'' out laws they are verry good in snow, also Im running the HL clutch kit from EPI, turns them verry verry good. I got so much traction now I have no problems cat walking through deep snow cant wait untill spring....

What all else do you have done to your brute? Did you have to lift or trip your fenders at all?

right now all I got it the high lifter clutch kit, and dyna tech cdi, and ss 108 offset rims, but I am going to put a lift on it next cause the tires are verry close to rubbing, I stiffened up the shockes in the front and back now, so I'll have to see if that keeps them from rubbing, only rubbs when I hit really big bumps, nothing a lift kit cant fix, iv seen a few other guys running 29.5 on there brutes with no lift and said they had no problems.

only problem i have with law's is they wear out fast..
faster than most people care to admit.
I have a good friend that bought some and he lost 1/8 of inch of tread in like 5 rides. with only moderate road travel.

other than that they are awesome and unless you can turn the gorilla silverbacks , they have no real competition.

what size laws he have casue the 29,5 and 27'' laws are the only ones that will actully last any realy time, also they are a mud tire will last for ever if you use them for what they wear ment for. I ride lots of muskeg and mud hardly ever see lots of dry trail, but when I do I got my lites for that....

I run 27" swamp lites on my AC 650 H1 and they dig well. I use them in the winter cause they seem to have better traction than my 26" swamp fox's on my '08 Griz 700. Also the swamplites say they are a 27" but are about 2.5" taller than my 26" swampfox's.

MUD BUGS MUD BUGS MUD BUGS.

Great in the mud, great on the trail, don't rattle your brains out on the hard trials, kick ass in the snow. I stud mine for winter and they are great on ice. I run 26x12 all the way around on my BF750. Best all around tire IMO
