I notice my Polaris Sportsman 800 EFI is not too happy starting up when it's cold (20 below) I keep it in an unheated barn and was thinking about fitting the Polaris kit (as above). Just wondering what everyone else does, magnetic heaters maybe? And whether it's a tough job fitting these things. By tough I mean I more than 30 minutes, special tools etc.

Also any tips on tire pressure for snow and ice? It's my 1st quad so I'm learning stuff as I go, so far I've learnt that frozen rivers are awesome..

The polaris kit works, but if I remember correctly it is fairly expensive.

Magnetic heaters do not stay on the aluminum blocks. Placing them one the skid plate is not very effective.

The option I prefer is the heat pads available at most auto supply stores. They come in various dimensions and are held in place with high temperature silicone. Pads can be placed near water jackets to heat the antifreeze or on the bottom of the block to heat the oil. If your using 0/40 synthetic oil placing the heating pad on the cylinder wall (at a water jacket) will work well.

In the past I have used a battery blanket wrapped around the block. Plug in 30min before you need to ride and the motor is good and warm.
Also used this on my sled a couple times when I've left them out on the trailer.

I would see what grade of oil is in it first.Maybe it is too thick .E.FI. should start right up

What are you using for engine oil?
I have been using 0-40 synthetic amsoil in my 660 grizzly , no trouble staring in the cold.

Just go to canadian tire and buy a inline heater. They are for 1" rad hose and circulate the coolant to a certain temp. They work good. Had one on my old quad and that thing would start at any temp.Cheap too, like 30 or 40 dollars if i remeber.The install is to just cut a hose, install 2 hose clamps, Install heater unit, Refill with antifezze, Tighten clamps and plug in.
