AS SEEN IN TODAY"S EDMONTON SUN

Alberta may limit the use of all-terrain vehicles and snowmobiles along the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains to help the grizzly bear population recover.

The province said yesterday it has accepted most recommendations in a report designed to improve grizzly bear numbers.

Sustainable Resources Minister Ted Morton said the government wants to hear from the public before making a final decision.

Alberta may also extend a moratorium beyond 2008 on hunting grizzly bears if population studies determine the species should be designated as threatened or endangered.

We should get a petition together before this becomes a reality

Welcome to the Y2Y (Yellowstone to Yukon) ‘gang green’ movement.

If you Google Y2Y, you’ll see that this ‘green’ movement has been around for awhile and there just hasn’t been the resistance in place to stop them. If you research the environmental group that’s proposing this far enough, I’ll almost guarantee that Y2Y is behind it!

…designate crown land as a park and keep everyone out. After all, the squirrels have to mate in silence you know. The grizzly is just more fuel for their fire…

Motorized off highway use is going to suffer…eventually everywhere.

You may be a awkward moose but your a smart moose also. Time will tell with this one. My guess is if we dont speak up we will loose our riding areas 1by1. We here in Alberta and those in BC for sure. Just look at a map and follow the Rocky Mountains and you will see where it will impact. Bears or Caribou it doesnt matter We are out sooner or later. Unless we have a developed system in place with a proven record that may be the only hope of our sucess. So dont wait become active and a member of whoever is working to keep us on our sleds or quads NOW.

Y2Y was has been around for over 14 years. Their initiative “… people working together to maintain and restore the unique natural heritage of the Yellowstone to Yukon region.”
In english…keep out everything that damages the environment…this includes you and me on our motorized vehicles. Their effects have been widely felt in the US but to Canadians, their past actions have seemed transparent.

It isn’t big, it’s huge! With their momentum gaining strength in Alberta/BC, and their sights on areas closer to home, now it seems big…to us.

A prime example of local spots is the proposed Andy Russell Wild land Park. Once complete, this ‘new’ park will consume the majority of the Castle area. From the Waterton Park boundary extending up to the Crownsest Pass; this will be off limits to all motorized vehicles. For sledders and quadders, the trail system will be gone.

Who’s behind this proposal?
The Castle-Crown Wilderness Coalition – Pincher Creek (supported and funded by Y2Y)
The Sierra Club of Canada Prairie Chapter – Edmonton (supported and funded by Y2Y)
Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) – Calgary (supported and funded by Y2Y)

Another local target in the works is related to the proposed Caribou closures in BC (). The list of ‘conservation groups’ that discussed the issue with the BC government (October 17, 2006), contains a few familiar names.

Who’s behind this proposal? (you guessed it)
The Sierra Club of Canada Prairie Chapter – Edmonton (supported and funded by Y2Y)
Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) – Calgary (supported and funded by Y2Y)

Just for the he!! of it…compare the Caribou regions proposed by the ‘Mountain Caribou Project’ () to the over all goal map proposed by the Y2Y movement ().

Is it just a coincidence? It is damn scary.

They don’t move fast, but they’re big and everywhere. They have the public’s support and the politician’s ear.

And to top it all off, Y2Y’s head office…is right here in Canmore Alberta.
