Hey Everyone,

My wife and I are thinking of doing a week long quading/camping trip this summer. We are from Dawson Creek and are looking to head south a bit. We don't want to travel more than 8 hours or so. We are thinking of going to the Smithers area but not set on it. We want to go somewhere that we can park our camper and hopefully quad from the camper. We don't need a fancy campground, either a forest service site or a gravel pit would do. Any suggestions on where to go?

How much dirt road are you willing to travel?

Their is a nice rec site on the smithers side of the telkwa pass lots of areas to ride from that location. Not sure of the distance of FSR you will be driving to get their. The local Bulkley Valley Quad riders is a pretty good group and will be able to answer your questions

Not too concerned with dirt roads. We travel 50-60kms on them here sometimes. If it’s worth it, we’ll do it.

27 kms up where?

The telkwa coalmine rd. The first rec site on the telkwa river is around 9km and there is a couple trails around there but if you go up to 27km there is a nice bigger sit at johnas creek with closer access to more trails

PM me and I can give you my # and some better direction

It's a great spot up there for quadding. Thanks to SWAT we went there in our Jeep and had a great time but I would have rather done it in my SXS. The road is a little rough to the campsite at Johnas creek thats a nice spot to camp and start from.

Did you make it up to the lakes?

You can actually take the road all the way through to Terrace

We turned around just before the lakes if I remember right, I know we didn't see them but by the map they were pretty close. It was the middle of the week and we were by ourselves so we didn't want to take a chance on getting stuck or something breaking. We didn't see anyone else until we were almost back to the Johnas creek campground and he didn't look like he was going 4X4 ing with his 2 well drive Ranger.

Anybody have a contact for the bulkley valley quad riders club? The one on their website isn’t working.
