Looking for your guys experiences or opinions on rear rack boxes with a one up seat. I'm in the market for one and would like one that fits well and has a good second seat.
Will be fitting it on a G2 Outlander

I am not a fan of them personally. Puts a lot of weight at the back of the machine and makes them to light. And the person in that seat is trapped in there pretty good. Seen it twice now where **** went wrong and the quad flipped, the driver was able to jump clear but passenger couldn’t.

I'll fourth that as well. Provides the rider on that seat a sense of false security until something goes wrong and unfortunately when something does go wrong its the person in that seat that gets hurt.

Thanks for everyone's replies so far. I understand where people are coming from, I've seen flips happen in front of me more than once. Placing weight over the rear diff make sense, but is there a different solution for a passenger back rest then? My GF and I easily fit on the seat and weigh less together than some people I've seen riding and just looking for ideas until she can get her own machine.

Get a dedicated two up machine.

Correct . I have had a lot of quads over my life and on my secound two up .
Wouldn’t go back to a standard length .
Hardly ever use it for another person but the ride and extra length is sure nice .

I used to double on the quad all the time with my wife. Then got a sxs and I will never go back to a quad if I plan on have more than me on it.

Terrain here doesnt lend itself to 2 ups or SxSs. Been riding two up for a while, was just seeing if there was an option for something to add some comfort.

The 2up is the way to go. Our second machine will always be a 2up. The ride is more comfortable for both driver and passenger, above that, it is designed for the weight and far safer. When its time to sell this one, we will be getting another.
This is last weekend:

I think ya need to be honest with yourself even if you aren't with random forums goers. Terrain ain't got nothing to do with it if a 2up quad can't make it, I'd be very surprised.

I would really really recommend not going this route. These bloody things are so heavy and dangerous, like other said, the passenger is trapped and likely not aware of what's happening to bail properly. Even two-up quads I'm not a fan of but at least the extra wheelbase helps.

Whatever you do, please ride safe, even if you have to make her walk up steep hills.

We travel a fair bit in the USA, and in several states it is illegal to have 2 people on a 1 up quad.
The 2 up is SOOO much more stable and rides better.
I've taken my TRV up hills I wouldn't even consider on my 1 up.
I added a set of Elka stage 3 shocks and it rides beautiful.

Also illegal in BC to have two people on a machine that wasn't factory designed for two people.

If you do decide to go that route, keep in mind that there are at least a couple counties in Alberta that only allow the number of passengers a machine is designed to carry. That said, I have yet to hear of anyone getting pinched for this.
