Last Summer we were riding with a group in the SD Black Hills. My wife's cousin had a 4 door turbo'd Maverick. They were having a hell of a good time, until they broke the front ball joints. Not saying they weren't hard on it.

We're taking a chance on our second Northstar Ranger. Hoping the new model bugs are worked out of this one.

A 900 Ranger that we used to have was a good outfit, except for the air intake was in a really stupid place where it sucked in lots of dirt and wasn't handy to change the filter, and it's the nature of that beast to grind into reverse if you're not really careful.

All good advice so far, thanks guys. I have been looking a bit right now but I assume more people wait until spring to sell to maximize their dollar return.
I am mostly going to be doing trails and fields with it I assume. I'm not going to purposely look for mud as I did with my previous quads but it will need to be capable to handle it in regards to spring time here with the snow melt and muskeg.
I am open to traveling a bit to get a solid machine, already have a two place sled trailer I will be using to haul it.
I know theres a large difference in power between models, but do any of the sport models feel underpowered?

I really like my wildcat sport. It is a very reliable machine with lots of power for its size.
The girlfriend has same model as mine but with different shock package. And both have been great.

Got a really good deal on a new old stock models.

Was cheaper to buy new then some of the used ones on kijiji. Timing was key for me.

With the 2019 model coming out soon. 2017’s will be good deals. With 2yr warrantee too.

With stock clutching I’m running 30” tires.
And doesn’t feel sluggish either.

She runs 27” tires on factory rims and has had no issues.

Main upgrade to do is snorkel. Due to low air intake location. Would give peace of mind. And prevent any damaging accidents.

Last April I picked up a new 2016 wildcat trail for $10500 out the door with a 2 year warranty.
It's the base model.
So if you watch there could be some good deals on new stuff coming soon.

For anybody that cares, just an update lol
I kept weighing the pros and cons of SxSs as well as the price of two machines vs one SxS and ended up purchasing this today. Got a really good deal on it being used and in the "off season" of ATVing here in SK. Only 700 miles, 13 1000 outlander XT. Its super clean and no signs of mud abuse and set up with what I consider the minimum mods to run around here in the spring (tires, snorkels and rad up top). Previous owner used it to cruise and pick up deer sheds in the spring.
My main thoughts were:
A) I have much more knowledge in quads over that in SxSs. a lot may be transferable but I feel more comfortable this way in regards to maintaining
B) The GF has never done the ATV/SxS thing so I dont even know if she'll like it or not. If she doesnt I dont really want to ride around in a SxS by myself and now have something I know I enjoy and if she does end up liking it, doubling is an option or if she wants her own machine I will probably be able to pick one up for less combined than the SxS models I was interested in
C) As odd as it may seem, the way I'm set up its easier for me to store 2 ATVs over one SxS. Hauling I can do 1 quad in the truck box or two quads on the double trailer vs. the double trailer everywhere for the SxS

Looking forward to learning the intricacies of the outty over my previous quads and at the moment looking to upgrade the headlight bulbs to LED and pick up a rear box/seat.
Thanks everyone for the input up to this point. Feel free to add your thoughts.
