I am planning to head out west of Rocky to Jackfish lake. I have not camped in the area before and unsure of excatly where to camp or how far north of hiway 11 I will have to go.
Could anyone offer any info to how far off the hiway i will find a decent camping spot, near riding trails and possibly a creek.
TIA.

Just on the other side of the highway is Saunders landing. Nice camping and trails right there. About 5km off the highway

There are spots along the Jackfish road....haven't been there for a while so I can't remember how far north. The thing I DO remember is how tight it is down there. Not a lot of places to turn around once you get a larger rig down there. I like that Saunders side as well. Goes south and winds down for about 4-5 km....go PAST the campground and random camping is all over.

I was north of the lake for the long weekend.

There was a spot almost every mile past the provincial park.

It was the long weekend so it was busy. But if you went out on a Thursday or Friday you will find a spot easy.

We had a great spot, 2 minute trail ride to the rope swing into zipper lip creek!

I heard a rumour the area north of jack fish was reclaimed by the oil companies. Can’t get in there anymore.

Can anyone verify this?

We were planning a trip to bighorn next week but apparently that is not opening until the 15th or later due to late melt.

Wanna take the family out for some bike riding, but a couple kids are riding on small wheels and we need a place that the mud holes are not neck deep or deep loose sand.

We Haven’t camped at Saunders?

Has any body been out to the Rocky Jackfish area that can confirm if the random camping is still accessible or not?

Yes it is. Not sure how far north it is but after you get across the second bridge don’t go to the right. It’s gated off and damn near impossible to turn around. If you go left you just run out of road by a lease.
