Better battery?

I'm looking for a battery with higher cranking amps that will fit in the stock location on a '12 outlander. The stock battery doesn't seem up to the challenge of spinning this motor over when it's hot. What's out there for better batteries over the Yuasa?

I went with the top of the line AGM from Canadian Tire for my Honda, spins it much faster than the Honda battery ever did.
I have no experience with them but there are a lot of Harley guys going with antigravity batteries, they are a lithium battery and much smaller for the same cranking amps, or you can go the same size and get a LOT more cranking amps. The Harley guys rave about them for the big modified high compression engines.

I'll check into them. That's the issue I'm running into. Higher compression and the cams I'm running trap alot of compression

I went with lithum battery in my Yamaha rhino, I like it way better than the stock ones.

I think the apex/nitro guys were doing earth x batteries. Not sure how they worked?

When you go with the lithium battery's make sure you get one with a low voltage cut off. If you drag them down below a min voltage they are done

i have a lot of experience with batteries.
You can go to a AGM battery like a DEKA or ODESSEY . Deka makes one to fit oem area perfect. The Odessey, you have to do some small modification to the area where the battery sits. Both are very good batteries.

Now if you want the best then lithium is the way to go.. In a Lithium you can go to a size that is the same as OEM or go to there smaller size and then fill up the area with there foam that they supply. Both sizes have the same cranking amps. The larger battery size is not more stronger then the smaller size. Just depends on what you like. You have to do your homework here thou. I used to run a EarthX lithium. They advertise for all moto sports but if you read there fine print you will see that they are not 100% waterproof. This can and will cause problems if your into the water and mud all the time. My Earth X shorted from water intrusion and caused a fire in my trailer which caused alot of damage to my quad, inside of my 6 x12 utility trailer and the content of the trailer. After all of this crap i went thru i found out that ANTI GRAVITY is the only lithium that is 100% waterproof since a lithium does not have to breath.

i now run a anti gravity battery in the smaller size in my renegade and space it with the foam they supply. They are very light at around 3 lbs and they pack a big punch. They never need charging and if you do hook up the charger then you will find that it will only take like 1/2 hr and it will be up to full charge again even after using it for winching, lights whatever. The recovery rate on these batteries is incredible and you will never run out of battery power. Not for what we do with our quads or sxs. You can run a stereo for a very long time too. Go read up on lithium batteries on Anti garvity web site and educate yourself on these batteries.

The only down side is that they are expensive .. my anti gravity battery that can start any desiel full size truck for many times and still have tons of power left is worth like 600 bucks. But you will never need to charge it or you will never have a cell go dead from leaving it over the winter or whatever. IMO its money well spent but if you look at the price of say a AGM battery at 200 bucks you can buy 3 of them to equal the lithium. For me thou the lithium is the way to go. I run 13.0 compression in my motor and have large cams too so a battery like this is welcomed. I mean you can run a AGM also.. 13.0 is still not that high .. once you go to compression ratios of say 14/15 or higher then its really a must. The highest compression a can am has is in the maverick 1000 motor. its 12.0. thats the factory compression. When you build a motor you can go with whatever compression you want but most peeps stick with 12/0 or lower. You can still run 91 pump gas with 13/0 compression. once you go to higher then 13.0 then you are into running race fuel usuallly. For power wise just going from 12.0 to 13.0 makes a big difference in the power the engine makes in our can am motors.

I looked into the Earth-x but didn't want to take the chance with it as this bike sees a lot of mud and water. This is a Mav motor with 12.5 comp but with Kevins DSB cams it traps a lot of compression. There's no chance of it turning over hot.

I took the chance and ordered an Antigravity yesterday. You're right Kwik...they ain't cheap but it should do the trick. It should be in by Wednesday so I'll try it out then. Thanks for the advice on the AG. There's not much out there on them. I bought the biggest one I could fit and it's 600 cranking amps. Fingers crossed this finally works.

that type of compression should not matter if it turns over harder or not.. it should turn over the same hot or cold. usually if machine does not want to turn over hot means the bearings are tighting up and need to be replaced or are faulty and on there way out... i had 12.53 compression, now 13 0 compression and run kevins DIE cams which are bigger then the ones you have and i have no problem hot or cold... i would be talking to engine builders about this.. thats not normal

I've been in contact with the builder lots (Kevin). That's his best idea is due to the cams. I was worried about bearings as well but it turns over fine by hand when hot. No metal in the oil either. Tightened up valve lash and it helped a bit but not enough.

Good. Kevin does know what he is doing. That is for sure. Its odd thou. Just keep an eye on it. Hopefully the battery will solve the issue

I have known the man since 2008 when we used to do work out of his garage at home. Now after doing 7 builds with him on two different machines he has never steered me wrong. I must have logged well over 70 hrs on his dyno since he got it. The knowledge you learn from that dyno and from the man himself is unreal. I have been happy with all my builds I have done and especially the last one where we set a record on his dyno for NA rwhp on a stock bore maverick 1000 motor.

Not sure about the brand mentioned, but the downside of some LiFe batteries is their intolerance to cold, be careful.

I'm not worried about the cold. It gets parked in the winter.

So far it seems the battery has solved my issues. Lights up instantly when she's hot now.

i ride all winter.. temps of -12, -15 are not bad at all.. never had a problem starting machine.. its when it gets down to -20 and below. when you cycle these batteries with turning the key on and off and create some heat and lots of the power comes back but i have had no problems with our winters for the last 4 years.
