I sold my GS last year after racking slightly over 100,000km and now on a Super Tenere 1200 and loving it.

my next bike will be an S-10, gotta have cruise control. want to ride to Tuk, as well as Deadhorse someday.

I've been a member on ADVRider since '07, have had a few different dual sports bikes but have wanted an ADV bike for a while. I'm on the tentspace thread, hosted a few travellers.

Never thought that I would love this bike as much as I do coming off a GS that I rode so much. IMO the S-10 is everything an ADV bike should be, agile enough for excursions and comfortable for the long haul. My longest day was 9hrs and nearly 500miles, all smiles.

Next July heading up the Dempster and Dalton on a 5 week trek.

man, that will be the ride of a lifetime. I'm jelly over here lol. my dad has done the Dalton and Dempster. parked his motorhome in Coldfoot, unhooked his Yukon and drove to Deadhorse and did the tour van to the ocean. on his trip to Tuk last year he parked in Dawson City and drove the Yukon up the Dempster to Tuk. said the majority of traffic was guys on bikes, he said they were all crazy lol. he advised me not to try riding my HD up there.

I met a guy in Grande Prairie last summer that was on an S-10 and had just come back from Tuk, he was stopping for fuel on the west end Petro Can. we talked for quite a while, he was a shorter fella but loved the bike. he came from a BMW before getting the yammie, his biggest complaint about the beemer was that it was so tall and no lowering kit he tried made it comfortable to ride much off road. he did the Dalton on the BMW the year before and wants to do it again but now on the S-10. the only thing he did to the S-10 was the front fender kit that raised it 2 inches, I guess guys were having trouble with them packing full of mud and stopping the front tire.

I rode my HD up to Dawson City and man there were hundreds of side roads we went by that had me thinking I'd love to be on an ADV style bike to explore them. on our way back we stopped at Pelly Crossing to fuel up, there was an older guy on a GS that was having trouble getting back on his bike, he had tweaked his knee on the poker rally during the Dust To Dawson ride. he loved the GS but was cursing the seat height with the bad knee. we helped him get back on and told him we'd hang with him until Whitehorse where he was stopping to get a room with a hot tub to soak his knee. helped him once more in Carmacks and then parted ways at the junction. felt bad for that guy, he was in a lot of pain trying to get back on the bike.

ADV riders are difinitly a unique group of people, i have met some awesome people this way all over my travels. No one seems to care what you ride, its about the adventure and a community of being uncaged. I've gone on multi week rides solo and seldom rode alone unless i wanted to.
Last year rode the Moab solo and more then half my trip was with another ADV rider.
This year because of Covid i'm limiting my riding locally so going for a week or two and riding Vancouver island. I had planned on riding along the coast line all the way to the Baja exploring small communities along the way but that ain't happening. LOL

Biggest issue with the 701 is fuel capacity. There are a few options but most are big $$$$$ and are ugly as hell except the rally kits and they are even bigger $$$$$$$. Went a different route and did a Perun Moto rack, which I wanted anyways, and used a Mountain Addiction sled setup. Nice and clean and cost me a set of rails to do 10 liters versus the least expensive onboard tank which is only 6 liters, is over $700 and requires some ugly mods in my opinion.

My "adventures" are definitely toward the lame end of the spectrum. Like learning how to pick the 500+ pound beast up without throwing my back out.

That was part of why I started falling out of love with my GSA was the weight factor. The bike was amazingly comfortable and could do any road without issue but anything tighter got cumbersome and falling over could get tiring and expensive really quick.

Having a blast on the 701 now, not even in the same league comfort wise but man is this thing fun to ride. Basically a high horse power dirt bike on the road.

Your not to worried about the subframe, I've seen plenty that crack, even break because of being over loaded. Most subframe have a load capacity of not much more then 10-12lbs and that in its self can cause issues on a rough pounding trail.

Nice bike, I was looking at the new 1litre, hard to beat Honda's in price and performance.
People get mixed up, adventure bikes are not dirt bikes or dual sport. Essentially they are road bikes with off tarmac capabilities. The concept of adventure motorcycles is European as there are more unpaved roads in the world then paved and the adventure bike was design to go the long haul on roads, paved or not. Its not a trail bike or single track bike unlike what youtube video's tend to show.
If I was to ride off road and trail's i'ed be on the proper machine, a dirt bike.

The Husky good enough on the road that you could throw some soft bags on it an blast down the highway for a week run or so?

Not too concerned as the subframe is actually the fuel tank on these as well. Still can’t be too overloaded but I will mainly be carrying one can out back with a small bag rather than two cans and the other bag is far enough ahead that it shouldn’t put load on the rack far back. I am not likely doing extremely long trips so the luggage is minimal, mostly just need to have some gear and fuel back there.

Yeah you could do it, not as comfy as the big bikes for sure but with a little wind protection and a seat concepts seat I think it would be just fine. Was off road last night with it and that is a massive difference from the GSA. Truly feels like a big dirt bike rather than a dirt capable streetbike. Smile factor is pretty big too when a guy can wheelie everywhere on a whim.

I bought a set of MOSKO soft cases for my bike and love them, I pretty much leave my hard cases at home now. For solely road trips the hard cases are nicer but any off tarmac trekking the soft cases IMO are nicer, especially if you dump the bike and you will its just the matter of time with a 700lb loaded ADV bike. LOL

My stock 90/10 Dunlops are getting near done now so going to do the Outex tubeless conversion and probably Heidenau K60's front and rear. Other choices would be Motoz tractionator GPS or Shinko E805's. Need a tire that's good carving corners on pavement, running the gravel range roads and the odd side trail like pictured above.

I ran the Heidenau's K60 on my GS and also on my SuperT and really liked them. I'm now running Bridgestones BW on my SuperT, they curve up the pavement really good and do well on wet rainy days. For this year with limited travels I have been burning up the tarmac more so then dirt so that works. But I em looking at picking up a set of Motoz tractionator GPS or Mitas E07 for my next journey coming up.
I think the Shinko's E805's are awesome dirt tire but have too short of a life span for my riding, I would end up replacing tires shortly after my trip.
