I am changing the front disc and prake pads this weekend. I don't have a bike jack/stand proper. Just a floor jack.
Add a 2x8 block on the jack while stabilizing the back wheel? Or any other ideas?

Assume you're worried about stabilizing it side to side when you lift it? In the past I've run ratchet straps from the handlebars up to my roof trusses and kind of tighten the straps bit by bit as I lift the bike from underneath. Kind of ghetto but works OK in a pinch. I do have a 1500lb hydraulic bike lift you can borrow this weekend but I'm out in Stony Plain area.

Appreciate the offer!
I need the front just off the ground to get the axle out. I have a hand winch set up to hoist my truck canopy off and store in the garage. Totaly forgot about it. Going to secure the canopy with straps and use the winch and cables to get my hoist.
