Well, my learner moto license expires in End of June. If I don't get my full motorcycle license before then I'll never get it, I don't feel like paying to take a learning course just to get a learners license. i want a dual sport dirt bike, enduro whatever you want to call it. They're hard to come by around here. But found a Drz 400 SM from Suzuki 3,700 km on it, and completely stock. Would be cool to use it as a commuter bike, although the fuel tank is quite small I'll want to carry an extra fuel can (100km commute). Basically what I'm asking is if anyone has a review on it, personal experience. What do you think a guy should pay for it? I think the price is in the going range, throw some numbers out there to give me an idea what I should expect if I gave him an offer. I guess I should learn how to ride a dirt bike lol

I just sold my 2011 DRZ 400 with 23.000 kms. They are good units less the narrow seat and small fuel tank.

I added the larger Clark fuel tank, Seat Concepts, hand guards, home made low wind screen and changed the gearing many times depending where I was going.
A big improvement for them is the MDR tuned muffler and carb kit, but the USA to Cad $ sucks goats milk at this time.

The bike is ok with light weight riders and folks in the 220 ish up slow them down. Ha. If I had to repeat the dream, I would pick a dr650 since it would give me a bit more power in the rolly hills out West, and a bit more room to move around for the 5' 11" body.
KLR is what I kept, but they are heavy for many cut-lines and a hand full when the trails are wet. Tires make all the differences.

Any-Who,,, drz can get it done as they are frugal priced used and power plants are well built, make sure to ask the seller if the unit uses any motor oil & take a compression tester when looking. Do a test ride too since it will give you a chance to see if the bike fits you,,, a few mods can help in that category.

As for price,,, depends on your budget as we all know you get what you pay for. I always buy high and sell low since its the thrill of putting on the miles and spending time out-doors. Cost don't matter to most of us so long as the units get used often.

Good luck finding what works in the next adventure bro

I've got a older ( o1) drz400e, it's got lots of jam, never road one before so no comparison but have road 250 2 smokes and 450 4 smokes, and it's close for power

It's heavy yes, but I find it stays planted than a lighter bike

Mabe mine has some mods and work done, no idea

If youre using it more for commuting definitely go with a DR650 or KLR650 instead. DRZs are awesome bikes, just more of a street legal off road bike than a off road capable street bike. I had a DR650 and it was awesome for this type of stuff yet still pretty off road capable. The KLRs are a little too street oriented for me. I really didnt like my DRZ for any distance on the road. Off road it was awesome.

Excellent bikes, we had 2 of the Kawaski KLX 400's. (same bike) They are way better after jetting kit and they hate high altitude on hot days but they are very durable. Could use one more gear for the highway.

The guy wants $3,700 for it, it looks like an 08'. I'm really just looking for something to be able to enjoy some off road and still be able to drive it on the street, not looking for a super star st both. Highway I drive to work speed limit is 100 so not sure if I would really care about re gearing. These dual sport bikes are pretty hard to come by in my area so this one is one of the few that there is for sale.

If if you guys were in my shoes, 3,6xx KM on a completely stock bike, for $3,700, of course I'll offer him less.

i'm just looking to drive it to work, and have some fun off road just to get practice to get my full license.

Heres oictures of it, they're definately from last year, we don't have any leaves on the trees yet here.

A good friend has one. I personally found it gutless when I rode his. I also ride a gsxr 600, so big difference in know. It's a 2012 I think. Its treated him well but I think the lack of power is even getting to him.

Being it will be my first bike if I do pick it up I'm not too concerned. I should be able to get my money easily. Going to take a look at it after work tonight.

I hate a bike like that for commuting. It would be different if it was all city riding but on the highway they suck. My last one was a ktm 530 exc. Great bike but highway riding sucked bad. I also had an aprilia which was a naked bike. Also sucked on the highway. But get it in the city and that bike was hard to beat. Just something to think about.

Kool that its worth the look as it will fit your limited trips on hwy, air pillow or seat up grade will fix it up.

You can leave it stock or do up grades at your choosing to make it yours.

Big grin will be the tuffest thing to over come.

I agree on the power. Mine was bored, stroked, and had all the goodies to go along with it (exhaust, bigger carb, cams, etc) and it had nice power. Dont think I would have been happy with a stocker. But if its your first bike it will be fun. And they are a popular bike so for 3500 you should always get your money back out of it or close to it. Looks like a clean unit.

I went and looked at it today, the guy who owns it is in his 50's he said he just doesn't ride it enough, he said he bought it in 09' from the original owner, with 220km on it. He has receipts from services being done. Bike is super clean, not a single spot of oil on it, the worst mark on it is a little rubber from his shoe on the fender from throwing his foot over. It's always stored inside, summer and winter. 3,685km on it. I think I might have to buy it, if I can get my money back from it selling it if I don't like it, I don't see where I could go wrong. It's basically brand new.

That's awesome as you'll be smiling from ear to ear. That model comes with big carb so you'll be zipping along like nothing.

Play safe and have fun bro.
