You don't meet at your home but are leery of buying from people that don't meet at their homes? Seems most people want a neutral site. I'd use the local RCMP detachment parking lot myself.

Buddy of mine lost his street bike the same way, bought it through Kijiji, registered it and rode it for a few months then he gets a phone call from the RCMP and they tell him his bike was a stolen bike so they came and took it from him.

If you go onto the Rcmp website you can do a free search of the vin to see if it was stolen. A lean search at registries. Always do both. And remember if it's too good to be true it usually is

I understand and respect people being leery of having strangers come to there home, but I wouldn't buy anything out of the back of a truck. The way I look at it, I cover my ass first.

the sled i lost to RCMP was stolen 4 yrs prior in Sask.I had it 2 yrs before registering it. 2 weeks after they came for it.. the seller gave me the serial no. few days before he came to my place,. I took the no. to Barrhead RCMP and Registries. and kept the paperwork. or they would have charged me with possession of stolen property. Turned out the guy i got it from got it from the thief. Registry offices cant detect stolen vehicles from other provinces, so you would have thought the RCMP could, but because the older sleds are only 10 digits.. the computors dont pick it up.

Thanks for this site. It sure makes a great tool to have. FYI, it does work. I had 2 sleds and a trailer stolen in '13. I typed in the VIN and it comes up stolen. I have used the Lien search at registries before and find it a waste of money.

I've paid the $10 to get the vin's checked out every time I buy something. Check for liens, if it's stolen, and if it's registered under family. When I pay I go through a money order, and label it to the lien holder and the possessor. Same goes for family members that are on Registration.

always talked on the phone to someone to get things checked out as well.

the RCMP site doesnt accept the older short serial no,s that was my problem,,before i got that sled.i checked it on there,,took the serial no to the Barrhead RCMP detachment as well. and to registries..nothing... But 2 weeks after registering it, They came for it.. it sat behind the RCMP detachment for 2 yrs before they said they hauled it to the dump? didnt even call me to ask if like it back ? WTF ?
