The Vegas Golden Knights became the NHL's 31st franchise, and their name reveal lit up social media Tuesday.

The Golden Knights name trended across North America on Twitter, and they debuted #BoldinGold for their fans to use. Many teams, including some of Vegas' future Pacific Division rivals starting next season, offered kind regards in welcoming the Golden Knights to the League.

We won’t have to wait until the NHL expansion draft to see name-brand players tied to the Vegas Golden Knights franchise.
New England Patriots star Rob Gronkowski and slugger Jose Bautista are just two familiar minority owners of the 31st NHL franchise, according to ESPN business reporter Darren Rovell.

Model Carol Alt, Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Prince Amukamara, and former NHL stars Mark Recchi and Alexei Yashin have also invested in the club, which begins play in 2017-18.
The Golden Knights’ majority owner, Bill Foley, unveiled the team’s nickname and logo with much fanfare during a ceremony Tuesday night.

Had to laugh how the keyboard junkies took an immediate dislike to the name. The biggest complaint was dropping the Las........................give me a break!

Most people already have dropped the Las and it seems "we are going to Vegas" is pretty much the norm.

I think the name is alright not great. I agree with what was said above and that they will be referred to just as the 'Knights' eventually.

I also would have preferred the name to be Black Knights, but I remember reading something a while back that Betman did not want the teams name to be associated with gambling and all the other Vegas activities going on in Vegas in order to make it a brand that is welcomed in a family environment so that parents and kids can support and enjoy the team as well without any backlash. Betman felt that the name Black Knights was too closely associated with cards and gambling.

They couldnt use the Black Nights, US Army has the rights to it and they would not relinquish.

Ah okay that makes more sense. I do remember reading that betman demanded ownership to have a clean family name though too. But that would make make the most sense as to why they couldn't use Black Knights.
