The Oil are Limp and lifeless, what's up? the curse of the big contract's, bad karma, bad coaching. I'm a die hard Oilers fan and this is wearing very thin hope we can make the play-offs.

I blame management and coaching. Babcock was the coach on their to be had list but they couldn’t afford him so they took TMc as a 2nd best available. Unfortunately TMc isn’t the right coach for this team.

TMc had a better team in SJ for longer and never got further than the first round if I recall and only once. Never making it to the finals. One year after he left SJ they go to the finals.

PC has squandered away the teams assets. Giving away a 1st for Reinhart, the Hall for Larson trade should have included another piece coming back, Eberle for Strome? Same thing. Quality pieces for minimal return. Then not doing one thing to bolster the Defence in the off season and signing Russel to a stupid contract. Draisaitl’s contract was an overpayment for a guy who they wanted to center the second line.

RNH has been the better C all season and historically been a consistent player and still a young player with experience. They will screw up badly if they move him.

Talbot is used too much because they never went and signed a decent backup. Same story for 8 years.

Last year they played way above their ability and over achieved. It was a stat nightmare that showed they would never be able to sustain that level of play and it certainly came true.

I'd agree with that.
Unless he was being a dickhead about it, then your getting punched either way.

I think they need some team bonding to get things back on track.

Maybe a weekend of doing blow in Katz's new $110million taxpayer funded L.A fawkshack would help.

Lucic said “the boys aren’t having any fun” last weekend, Vegas Saturday, McDavid turns 21 same day and a week off for them... ya they’’re gonna get the fun back

Preds won the first period, Oil won the second and third tonight. Second Nashville goal should have been disallowed as the ref should have blown the play dead after Larson took the puck in the face. He was initiating blowing the whistle and somehow got confused on the play??? is how i saw it. I hate the way the offside rule is written, should be back foot can not be past the blue line and exclude the 'on the ice' wording.

Not sure how Edmonton had much of a chance tonight playing 6 on 5 all night. Brutal reffing tonight. Missed the penalty off the opening face-off (playing the puck with your hand). P.K. hooking McDavid on a clear break away, no call. Puljujarvi crosschecked in front of the net with the ref looking right at them, no call. I'm sure I could find 3 or 4 more blatant (not iffy, boarder line) missed calls. Edmonton's penalty kill is awful this year, and they have a 68min penalty differential. Thats a full three and a half periods more on the penalty kill vs on the power play. (See where I'm going with this refs?) And McDavid isn't even in the top 5 for penalties drawn this year. Corsi and 5 on 5 stats show that they're a good team. Even the +/- stat shows they're not a bad team (power play goals against don't count against +/-). Officiating this year is just baffling. I talked to the brother in law after the game tonight to make sure I'm not the only one that saw the game that way.

ABSOLUTELY BRUTAL REFFING TONIGHT!!!

(Wife thinks the oilers are going to give me a heart attack this year)

yup, they called this offside, but last year feb 26/17, Arvidsson was offside when they scored against the oil and refs wouldn't review it.... reffing needs to get a lot more consistent, if they're going to use slowmotion replays..... and not calling the spear to Maroons crotch, right in front of the ref, and not call? And Mcd on the breakaway with PK Subban's stick still hanging into Mcd's pants, and no call??

Its funny. Everyone talks about how much quicker the game is and how fast the players are these days. They may be twice as fast as they were in the ‘70’s but the refs must be 10 times faster over the old days. They’re all athletes. Great foot speed and know the game/rules inside and out. And they don’t down a beer and smoke a pack between periods anymore. There are tons of kids that grew up aspiring to be an nhl player and making it. There’s also kids aspiring to grow up to be nhl referees. The players have gotten way better and you would think the officials would have too. It doesn’t make sense about how the game is call these days. 4 officials watching everything on the ice with zero consistency. The nhl has always been private about its own affairs but wish they would take the lead that other leagues have done and call out there employees publicly. And the sports ‘news’ reporters should do the same.

Has for a few years!! Trade Crosby for McDavid?? I think Oilers would win??

McDavid is not the problem for Edmonton.

He was basically producing at the same rate as last year until a few games ago. No one considered him a problem last year.

It’s too bad no one would take that Draisaitl contract now based on this years performance. Stupid PC overpaying based on one years stats.

draisaitl and talbot, are the oiler's biggest problem right now....article in the edmonton sun few days ago, pointed many statistics directly at the goal tending..... Goals for, shots, hits, blocked shots are lower, but similar to last year. The biggest direct differential is goaltending percentage and goals against etc.... Sad but true. Hope they play montoya next game...

Montoya? Lol oh god. His career numbers aren’t any better than LB’s.

Talbot is letting in more but I blame the defence for allowing quality chances against. On the PK they had to adjust their positioning away from the typical box because they relied upon Russels shot blocking. I love a guy who blocks a shot but Russels game is only blocking shots. His play results him being out of position and out of the play %90 of the time. Then watch him try and make a first pass out of the zone. He looks lost. This blue line needs a major overhaul. Waiting on prices to develop isn’t great when half your core are played well above their experience level.

It’s easy to look at the goal differential and see how many goals are scored against but look repeat and you see a defensive system that isn’t working.

Then relying upon players to develop in a straight line upwards is foolish. The Eberle trade was forced because he didn’t get up to speed in the playoffs. He was never a TMc type hard nose player either. But you give up a 20 goal guy for peanuts and expect guys like Caggiula and Sleppy to fill the void. Just isn’t happening. I like Caggiula but after that you could put any AHL’er in Cammalleri, Khaira, Slepyshev, and Stromes spot and have as good of results.

Letestu and Kassian haven’t been able to put anything together this year.

Lucic and Maroon are plugs. They don’t need two slow under producing players in the top 6. Lucic has one job, go to the net and make a ruckus. Maroon wasn’t used hardly at all in the same role as last year. I think Lucic cried too much.

The real victim will be RNH. The kid is playing the best hockey of his career. He is great in the dot many nights and great at either end of the ice. If he really wants to stay in Edmonton it will be crappy to see him go when PC makes his typical knee jerk reaction trades. 450 game 24 year old centres producing somewhere around .70 pts per game when given mediocre talent to play with are not easy to find. He has never been given the credit he deserves.

They went into this season with high hopes of success with a unproven overachieving roster. Many of the fans recognized it, the analysts saw it, the bloggers questioned it yet the management was okay with it. Fire PC before he does more damage.

Well said. A goalie sometimes is only as good as his defense, the boys really havne't had Talbots back to much. Not to say he hasn't let some softy's in. IMO Russel and Maroon are the turds...That whole McDavid for Crosby is crazy talk, no Oiler fan would like that trade...McDavid is not the problem and still young and has a lot more to offer....in time.

Currently Crosby is more valuable then McDavid but Crosby is going downhill soon, where McDavid is still going to get better, it's a trade that would never happen and would be incredibly stupid on the Oilers part. Crobsy could easily retire within a few years, especially if he gets another concussion. McDavid's biggest downfall was his performance in the playoffs. This regular season to last, he cannot be blamed at all for the teams lack of success.

The defense is awful. Russel and Larsson are good enough for 5-6 and that's it. The main problem is they are trying to play dman better then they are. The Oilers don't have a real top 1 or 2 dman. Talbot is doing ok, last year was exceptional.

At least there is some positives like RNH and Khaira.

Nurse is turning into one good dman.... The last 3 or 4 games he is shining. Him and larsson is a good line.... They were the only players at +4 rating last game. Lucic is a plug, and we may lose maroon, who is seriously able to put the puck in the net, and is on a 6 game points streak, due to lucic's no trade/move contract :(. I see Benning and Klefbaum as the big defensive flop this year :( . and Sekera is seriously stumbling, as he's been out for so long.

The problem is they are paying Sekera and Russel first pairing money to play third pairing minutes. Larsson and a Klefbom were supposed to be the best pairing, Nurse has slowly developed but still makes big mistakes at critical times. Benning could have moved up the depth charts a bit but I would rather see Davidson.

I guess Coffey is going to fix all their defensive issues. Lol.

Was talking with a friend last night that goes to almost every Oil home game and he says last game some douche threw a jersey into the urnel and guys were high fiven him having a chuckle...Some classy wagon jumper Oil fans right there. Buddy has seats in lower bowl, i'm sure they cost a mint. Said guys were sitting close to him. I guess if you can afford them seats you can afford a new jersey everytime they lose. Whats a jersey worth $150-$200? Sure, few bad games and i'll piss on my team...WTF. Tonight's gonna be a show. Outcome 5-4 for Oil in OVEEEEEERTIIIIIIME!
