Wideman hit on Henderson

What do you think?

He tries to say he had his head down and didn't even see the linesman...really??

I gotta call Bullchit!! The tape shows his head wasn't down and if it was why did he crosscheck Henderson?

The league made the right call with the indefinite suspension and as far as I'm concerned his hockey career should be over. It's one thing to be unsportsmanlike to another player but to a ref/linesman the way he did is intolerable.

Should he be done, suspension, fine or a combination?

Done ?? Are you serious.
The guy was dazed and hardly was able to make it back to the bench. He reacted to the linesman moving his way backwards while he did have his head down.
He's probably gonna get 10 maybe 20 games for it.

Totally agree... Doesn't matter who u are, the refs need respect, even if they miss the odd call. Permanent suspension is the right call

He was pissed due to the no call on the hit he received. I'd tell him to take the remainder of the season+playoffs off and we'll re-evaluate in the summer.

Even if he was dazed it was an intentional hit from behind done for the rest of the season take responsibility for your actions

What he did was absurd and should be punished. If you only watch the replay where he skated towards the bench, came across the linesman and crosschecked him you would think he should be suspended for life.

But you to go back to where he was hit. He got up, his knees were buckling and shaking, he had a hard time with his first few steps. There is no doubt in my mind he got his bell rung. He skated towards the bench in a woozy state, still no excuse, but what was going on in his mind? What was he seeing? How bad was he concussed? The act itself was totally out of character for the player, usually a very disciplined and non aggresive guy. There was no penalty issued on the play.

Now the questions I cant answer because I didnt see the game. Did Wideman play after the hit? If so why wasnt he sent to the quiet room to be checked for a concussion? The only valid excuse he could have is he was out of it, didnt know what he was doing and reacted when somebody came across his path. The only reason for that would be because he was concussed.

Wideman did play after the hit. As he apologized to the ref on the ice. Saying that though, I'm not sure if he missed a shift or not.

If that is the case then the Calgary Flames should be in trouble as well. The NHL and all sports are pushing concussion prevention and treatment. An act like that with all the tell tale signs of having your "bell rung" and no trip to the quiet room? Everyone saw the hit, the wobbly kness's and the hit on the ref. Who in their right mind wouldnt think about checking him out? He proved he was out of his mind, maybe some actions from the team to help?

All I saw was the replay clip, but based on that he should be charged with assault. He was clearly upright and steady when he raised his arms and hit the ref.
If you did that on the street with video proof you would go straight to lockup.

I haven't seen the hit, but here's my take.
If it was one of us doing this to someone, we would be changed with assault. Just because they get paid to play a game, they do not have better rights than us.
Concussed or not they are professional athletes and should know better. IMHO he should be expelled from the league deal with the assault charges and go and get a regular job like everyone else.

They are paid to play in a full contact sport.
I think he should be suspended though. As I was watching the game my first thought was, he didn't just run into Henderson. He got his arms and stick up and nailed him. It will be interesting considering the lawyers for the officials will be attending the hearing.

He says he couldn't get out of the way, cause it was too late. That HARDLY explains why he brought his stick up and pushed the linesman with his stick/hands. It "LOOKS" like an obvious intent to injure to me. Had he done that to another player, there would have certainly been a penalty along with all the suspensions, etc.

I've been watching that tape over and over this morning and I'm even more convinced it was intentional now. He definitely had his bell rung in the corner but was pretty much standing straight up and looking straight ahead by the time he got to the blue line. The act of the cross check was one of aggression and not defensive, and it's pretty easy to tell the difference between a team jersey and black/white stripes. Was he just po'd there wasn't a penalty called for the hit on him in the corner, maybe, but that's still no excuse to take it out on an official. The icing on the cake...if it was an accident why didn't he stay out there and help Henderson back to his feet or at least check on him, instead he sat on the bench with a "whatever" look on his face. And if he was rattled that bad why wasn't the team doctor looking at him the second he got to the bench?

I grew up playing hockey and loved every minute of it. For the most part it's a great sport but when you have an incident like this it puts a tarnish on the entire game.

After watching the clip (thanks for posting Ric), I believe it was intentional, head up and on solid legs. If Wideman was concussed, he should of went down and stayed down.
