In Alberta you have to insure it as a motor home. Really no problems after that........

Cheers

Well that’s kinda what I was asking. Is it an issue to change the registration from bus to mh? Do they want an inspection or anything to ensure it is what one says it is after they change it physically? Or do you just go in with your bus registration and say this is now a mh?

A key issue in a vehicle registered as a bus is that it must be operated by a driver with the appropriate license and the insurance limits are quite large given the number of passengers on board. The main question is once all of the seating is removed and conversion is done, is the bus still roadworthy (nothing major changed that could affect safe handling ad braking). You may need an inspection to confirm that.

The vehicle should then be able to be registered as an RV and so insured and licensed as a motorhome. It is that way in Alberta No idea what hoops there are in other provinces. I imagine in BC they want to collect PST from you when you buy the new bus and then when you go to register it. Naw - Just kidding. They probably want a fresh PST injection every year just cuz you have it :)

No insulation added, summer months, electric heat on shore power...or a warm sleeping bag. It did snow in Aug last year.

Hmmm, wonder why the other pics didn't work...thought I did it the same way.

I could be wrong, but I don't think the driver has to be licensed for the vehicle, just the number of passengers. For example, when I was a lot boy at budget, we had 15 passenger vans that we could only rent out to class 5 drivers if we pulled a seat or two out of them.

More or less. In Alberta with a class 5 license you can drive a bus as long as there are no passengers. If there are any passengers in the vehicle, the max seating capacity is 15. Otherwise you need a class 4 for up to 23 passengers, or class 1/2 for anything bigger.

So with a class 5 you can haul 14 people in a bus that has 15 seats, but if you add one more seat it's not legal.

I inquired about just leaving it a "bus" and insuring/licensing as is...insurance company wanted 9 million liability for a 72 passenger bus, nope!

I had more trouble with insurance company than I did with the ministry. Ministry wanted a pic to see it painted.

I have seat belts for 8, can seat 10.

First thing the cop asked me was if I had my air brakes endorsement. As soon as he asked me that I knew I had him. He was fishing.
