So when one converts one of these bus’s to a recreational vehicle are guys changing their registration so they don’t need a class 4 license to drive it?

Only need a class 4 if the seating capacity is over 15. Technically a bus conversion would fall under the same rules as a big RV.

I will assume it varies from province to province?
Here in Ontario there are six criteria that you need four of to consider it a Motor Home.
(a) cooking facilities
(b) a refrigerator or ice box,
(c) a self-contained toilet,
(d) a heating or air-conditioning system that can function
independently of the vehicle engine,
(e) a potable water supply system that includes a
faucet and sink, and
(f) a separate 110- to 125-V electric power supply or
an LP gas supply
After I gutted the bus of everything I didn't want we started building the booth, cabinets, walls, washroom, beds etc.
Painted it 'cause MTO doesn't like to see the chrome school bus yellow. This is what I added...
a...convection cooker and BBQ
b...two coolers and a bar fridge
c...composting crapper
d...small electric heater
e...two new 5gal pails with snap on lids and a 12 volt RV faucet/sink....enough to brush your teeth and wash your hands and face for a week.
f...genny and shore power from camp sites/friends cottages.
Took some pics to the ministry along with the safety and they switched it to M/H. School bus license here is a class B and the air brakes is a Z. Class changes with the new title, you still need the Z endorsement for the air brakes if the bus has them. My guess would be if you had to have a special license to drive a big motor home they'd have a lot harder time selling 'em to Joe public? A lot of M/H's have juice brakes not air. Never looked into it, I've had a class AZ license [tractor/trailer] since the early 80's and been off the road for almost 20 years.

In Alberta you have to insure it as a motor home. Really no problems after that. We have two. One diesel and one propane. It’s been a lot of fun building them. One is a camp and one is a garage. Both running propane heat with a thermostat. Both were insulated very well and we spray foamed the undercarriage this year. Took it to Brule this summer dirt biking and yes we have been pulled over by the cops. We have a lot of man hours and a fair bit of coin invested in them but we use them all winter out here to for sled camp so it’s a win win. I do have lot of pictures I can post if your interested.

welcome to the site. always enjoy following projects like yours here, hope to see some pics! And Tapatalk is an app for your phone to browse the forum (instead of just using your phone like a computer and going thru google etc), works better usually, a bit more streamlined for use on your handheld devices for posting pics/searching etc.

This is our camp. Cummins diesel. Picked it up at an auction. We had it safetied and switched to a motor home. With chains on the back it hauls pretty good. We put a panel and wired it all up. Lots of receptacles, lights, tv, fridge, microwave, and sink. The cabinet is a drying cabinet made for sled gear. There is two fans in that metal box that pull off the top of the heater and blow into the cabinet. 2 sets of bunks and a pull out couch that’s not in the one picture. All can run off a 3500 watt generator.

I can totally relate to "it's been a lot of fun and a lot of work".
More or less finished it this summer [3 summers, brother and I are ATVers not sledders] approx. 1900 to 2000 hours. Parked in the winter.
Built it like a hunting cabin inside. No cops yet!... and would love to see some pics. In the mean time I'll try to figure out my computer skills.

Were just finishing up the sled camp garage now. Custom door and ramp. This bus is a 454 propane. It actually has quite a bit of pep. Gets around good.

Good pics, they're both pusher style FE buses, not that common here. Mine is a dog nose Freightliner/Thomas with a 5.9 cummins 5 speed stick.

OK, seems the problem I'm having up loading is the pics are to large [my kid did this]. Is there an easy way to correct this. I have zero data on my phone...text, pics, phone only. PC at home.

I’m using Tapatalk. The app. Usually pretty good and it will appropriate the picture size to fit. That’s a great looking rig. Please post some inside pics when you get er figured.
