jet boats are like fire hoses... it doesn't have to spray in the water, it can spray into the air and still move forward. so does the snow flying out of the tunnel with no flap push the sled forward? the snow would act like a non compressible fluid flying into the air, that has to create thrust no?[/QUO

Correct, reason being the jet boat "sucks" the water in and then forces it out. I believe it's called propulsive thrust...

not to get off topic but there's not much suction by a jetboat pump. the water is physically directed and forced into the pump to get more pressure in front of the impeller. IMO

You're missing the point. The point is there are 2 ways to move a sled. Push off a solid object or hurl a mass of snow backward. How much traction does a 747 have and it goes forward? The equivalent mass of the gases moving out of the jet engines have to overcome the mass of the plane. The turboed sled does not just rely on traction of solid snow. It "can" also thrust forward by throwing snow backwards and they do that very well. ps. 220 Dan? you better go on a diet, LOL.

So getting back to the original question "Does track speed matter?" Yes, only if you plan on moving forward without traction to solid object and want to take advantage of throwing snow for thrust.
Sorry but simply hurling a mass of anything is useless unless there is traction in some form. Air / water / powder all have a respective mass and it has to encounter a resistive force in order to provide thrust. Action- reaction.
More traction in firm snow so less mass of snow needs to be moved. In powder you need to move more snow to get equivalent traction.
While some vacuum is created with a jet boat, thrust is directed at the water surface which provides the resistive force against which the discharged jet acts.

Track speed matters but Traction matters more.
In asphalt drag racing, lose traction and you lose the race. Same with mountain sledding. There is a fine line though. After 150hp it is difficult to maintain traction. The sled handles more like a jet ski after breaking traction. Until the turbo sled gets enough ground speed to almost match the track speed, the setup stocker that maintains traction will beat the turbo.
Check out the turbo sleds in 2017,18 & 19 Stock rear suspension, boost cranked up, trenching and wheelieing(is that even a word?) skis sky high in the air. A setup stock sled with traction would easily beat the turbos. It is funny to watch. Whatevs, it’s good entertainment. It’s also good entertainment to reply to a five year old thread. You sure about this part of your statement. I call BS coming about here.

look at drag racing, all things being equal but power levels. The car with higher horsepower may not win as the suspension cannot keep the tires planted to keep traction.

Well maybe that's the problem, I have Elka Shocks all the way around my turbo with a Baker skid wrapped inside a 3" track and an Aerocharger that has virtually no lag, pushing 10lbs. I just haven't rode a ****ty turbo sled to compare these problems we are speaking of. I have seen some of these crappy setups out there and mostly thought the rider was the biggest mistake :D. All good guys rip it up as it was yours. I got bigger fish to fry til the snow falls.

Let’s ride together this year. I ride a NA with the same suspension as you. I think I can beat you. No tone to this invite at all. You can 100% harass me if I fail. Where do you ride?

I can brag that I am a superior rider since I have Elka Shocks all the way around my turbo with a Baker skid wrapped inside a crappy 3" track and an Aerocrap turbo that is overboosting pushing 10lb. I sit and watch Sledder’s climb and then I brag about my sled that is the best. It’s a cabin trailer queen if I ever saw one. I polish it up all spiffy to hide the fact it is junk. I don’t know jack about clutching. I have seen some of these crappy setups like mine out there and mostly thought the rider was the biggest mistake :D. Again, just like me. All good guys rip it up as it was yours. I got bigger fish to fry cuz I love to lie til the snow falls. I hope to stay in the same room as Kanedog. When he falls asleep, I would totally take advantage of him. When his NA beats my turbo, it turns me on.

I think I have issues but I would like to get to know you Kanedog. I’m trying to expand my horizons by learning from others like yourself. I am stubborn, I know it all and I’m always right. I realize this attitude limits my growth as a person and I am working on it. I would like to hear your opinion on my ****ty sled that blows up on me. I am aware it can perform twice as good if I can just overcome my ancient clutching methods. You don't know me from a hole in da ground but let’s change that and get to know each other. Much less resistive force in vacuum of space ....action /reaction...still no free ride

Action/reaction I agree, the assertion that “resisitive” force plays a part in how nozzles work, not as much.
