What is a sled bug?
It's a beacon from SOS that you attach to your sled so you can find it if it gets burried. Works on a different frequency than a normal tranceiver. You also need a dual crystal receiver to pick up the signal. brew_doo has one although I'm not sure he's installed it.

for my money I'd buy the snow bug. Runs on AA batteries, will run for 200+ hrs and works with the sos receiver. The sled bug must hook to the sleds electrical system and will only work for an hr or two after the sled shuts down. Not very practical when you or your buddy is run over by an avalanche, your transmitter may be dead when you get around to finding your sled, as digging out yourself or friends will take a lot of energy and time.
Probing for a sled is not a lot of fun, or you could come back in the spring.
