4 stroke machines are they normally tippy?

We finally got a chance to use our new yamaha two up, but it sure doesn't handle very well at slow speeds, is this normal. I swear to god that you have to stand on one side if you want to turn a sharp corner at all at slower speeds. It is ok at higher speeds and is very comfortable when traveling. I know this site is more suited to the higher faster nuttier sect though, but someone out there might know what I am talking about. How did you solve it? do I need to get wider skies perhaps or do I need to set the front springs on higher? when I drive it by myself it seems ok but when you have a passenger it will turtle in a heartbeat. And if you are gonna bash Yamaha get it over with and be done with it. Had to get a four stroke due to less fumes. Any input would appreciated.

I assume you are running a venture light? It has the same chassis as a Phazer which has similar issues. If the ski stance is adjustable make it as wide as you can, and set the front shocks to the stiffest preload setting. I think there are a few aftermarket options for stiffer sway bars out there too.

Adjust the ski stance to the widest setting with a wider ski adjust your springs in the front to a higher setting..... The chassis is the same as the Phazer so it will take a little bit of getting use to.

I think going the opposite way with the front spring might be the solution Dale, with the added weight of the passenger it is trying to wheelie the sled by a "teeter totter" effect using the front spring as the pivot, more ski pressure is needed. I would reduce spring pressure on the front skid shock and crank up the settings on the rears. then stiffen the front suspension (ski) springs to try and get the skis to "bite" better. I have no experience with 2-up sleds, and may be totally off base here but that's what I would try.

No the wife liked the colour of the RS Venture GT so what momma wants momma gets (comes under the happy wife happy life rule) I would have preferred that she get a phazer but no she likes being chauferred around ( have a two up quad too) I will try all your suggestions one by one but surely they shouldn't throw you off like a skittish horse. Thanks for the suggestions though.:eek:

I found with the Phazer that turning the idle up helped too. It sounds weird I know but it will reduce the engine braking effect making low speed handling a little less jumpy.

I'd try going with Teeroy's suggestions first and see if it makes any difference I looked at the wife's Phazer and the front suspension is almost full soft.

Thanks for all your suggestions, they were very helpful. My buddies wife has a 08 phazer doing the same thing( got it last year) added 40 psi to the front shocks and reduced the spring rate on the back and she was a happy camper. As for the Venture increased the fron spring pressure by half and decreased the stiffness on the back (found an adjusting knob underneath the shock what a concept!) and it drives with a lot more manners. Thanks again. :beer:
