Too many peeps are in lala land when they go riding. They don't know the local conditions and they don't reference one slope to the other. Aspects??? They don't know the difference.......funny isn't it!

5 slides on our groomed trail into the back-country and they are all south facing. The first one has slid, the second one has a fairly fresh debris pile at the bottom. The third one hasn't slid..........what doo a lot of people doo?

Whoopee, let's ride this chute, so they hit it a few times and move on.

Slide number 4 has come down and they cross the debris pile and the fifth hasn't come down yet. Guess what? They take a few spins at it also.

When they get to the top they play around and go down the same trail to get home. Once again they hit the two chutes that haven't slid. They get to the parking lot and "man was that a great day.....I wonder why nobody hits those slopes? They are soooo much fun!"

Some people just don't get it....................and I'm beginning to really believe you can't fix stupid!!!!

Never ceases to amaze me that peeps pull the avy chutes on the way into koko claims lookin for a fatality is all their dooin kinda tarded.

to digress ... I shall rant some more ...
My crew mainly rides in a hidden little area most sledders dont frequent. Its great for sled/snowboarding(if your internested in joining us for snowboarding PM me) which we do every day sleds start.
But we watch sledders come in to this terrain with the wrong attitude to mother nature. they see us doing some seriously stupid ch!t ... anything I can do on a snow board I ca and will do on a sled ... but ...
there is so much terrain in there we will never touch ... EVER !!!
this area has 3 fatallities in the last 10 years and we kept well clear of these areas even before we knew where and when these incedents happened.
yet we watch (painfully) as sledders come in with the same mentality they would have at Quartz creek where everything gets raped daily! and they proceed to do so ... often without gear !!!
does untouched facets at the bottom of the snowpack not tell you something eh? ... hmmm... wotz a facet ???
one group of 5 guys on a high avy danger day trigger 5 slides in one day. I did a sweep of the area to see wot carrnage resulted knowing they would leave thier wreakage. only some plastic.
when people follow our trails we get worried, we've had people thankful that we showed them how to get out of the back bowls coz they couldnt work it out in a snow storm. think merrains and draws, but cant see them eh ...
most times we wait for them to fark off before we enter the super gnar. (golden bowl, wonderland, gates of hell, death chute, etc etc)
moto of the story ...
RESECT MOTHER NATURE ... coz your pay packet and fat gut won't save you once your farked and out of cell reception.

At the end of the day, you carry the equipment so that you can rescue the good friends and family your riding with. It wont help a buried person if they were carrying their shovel. Its your equipment and proper use that will save them. If you dont carry a beacon you lack the means to find your buddy who did. Can you live with it on your conscious that you might not be able to help a trapped person because you were to arrogant to carry some essentials. I know i couldnt.

I have said it before, there are many media peeps who have an agenda and it easily shows through in most of them.

And the eastern trail riders, lake/river runners, etc., have way more statistics regarding deaths than the avalanche numbers. Like one year, 55 riders died in Wisconsin before Xmas……………go figure.

I think your rule should be leave the beer at the hotel drinking and driving your truck is a heck of a lot more dangerous then driving your sled if you wouldn't do it on a 450 pound sled don't do it in a 3500 pound truck that's just my two sense though

Okay I read this one a bit different. Yes I ride with the gear! But I ride like I don't have it! The gear is your last defense your brain should be your first and best defense to stay away from high risk areas! Don't get the false sense of security the gear gives you into trouble. Honestly if you have ever got into trouble u know how really in effective a beacon is when you or your buddy is under five feet of snow! Think u r any better than the next guy..... Mother nature still rules her roost! Respect it

Always ride with shovel, beacon, probe, saw, survival kit, extra layers, and now this year an avi bag, gps, and radios. I hope their the most expensive safety equipment I never need to use. (the avalanche stuff, saw and clothes almost always get used)

I don't even ride down the power line or on a lake without my gear on.
The beacon goes on in the house and comes off when i get home. I also will not ride without my abs bag.

Everyone in our group carries at minimun a shovel, probe and beacon. some have avi bags also and most of us have take a av training course. When we do bring some one new we teach them how to use a beacon and yes practice finding one. I have to add that i also believe that all this gear is a last line of defence and doesn't make you bullet proof

Yes to all, My two brothers and my dad and I all go to the mountains at least once a year and we all wear beacons, probes, shovels, and snowpulse avi packs. as well as ride with a guide.

I'm a proffessional guide, rule is simple. No avy equiptment NO riding and we all go home.
For those not knowing how to use the equiptment, i generaly will give a 1/2hr basic understanding on how to use it. Beacon, probe and shovel.
