We rode in the Blackwater area last weekend and the snow was great, visibilty was a little flat but riding in the trees was the best. After we had lunch on Saturday my 08 summit 154 would only run in limp mode. An error message appeared that said "check engine/check key". We fiddled with everything we could think of to get the darn thing to run out of limp mode long enough for us to get out of the steep to no avale. I was lucky I was riding with a few get it done kinnda guys like summit, rknight111, rmk800, ipnytro, thebigm and the apex guy that I can never remember his name, we'll call him apexwilly for now...lol. Anywho we ended up putting my sled up on Ron's tunnel and piggy backing her out through a few hairy bowls back to solid ground. I must admit that I felt better with another doo dragging my sorry a$$ out rather than the yammi that finished the job, which did a fantastic job by the way, just hurt my pride a wee bit thats all.
I got word back from my dealer today that the problem was not the key but was the d.e.s.s. post where the key attaches so a spare key and ecm would not have saved my bacon that night. It will be replaced on warranty but I will be packing a spare dess post along with a spare key. The post costs 35 bucks. They told me it has been a problem on a few of the newer doo's and no way to bypass it.
I think Ron might have a few pic's of the whole ordeal, if we're lucky he may post a couple

P.S. Thanks guy's for all the help getting my sled back to earth.

I believe a few others( by this I mean every sled manufactured by Doo since they started making them, just trying to get more rumours going, lol) have had the same problem. No matter what they did they couldn`t get the thing sled to go. It`s great that they are putting security on the sleds but sucks when it fails for us, and if there was away to bypass it then it defets the security.

Good to hear it wasn't too bad. Just alot of work to get the sled back to the parking lot. 40 kms of towing the sled back to the lot.Good experience for the group. Good to hear that you will be able to go to Golden with us. See you there sumx54.

Hey sumx54 was there any noticed or unnoticed warning signs that may have indicated that there may be a problem with the d.e.s.s. post? Reason for me asking is that I also have a new XP and have noticed that every now and then after starting the machine that the d.e.s.s. light will flash and beep. I was hoping that it's just b/c there may have been some snow in the contacts of the post and key.

Sorry to hear about a good ride gone bad  Too bad all these high tech electronic saveguards sometimes bite you in the butt. Anyways nothing major, allways a good thing when it's an easy (inexpensive) fix

Yes I had warning. We went in fairly deep and I shut it off at our fuel cache when I started it and went to take off it kinda back fired and popped a little. I thought at first I might have hit the nos button by accident but noticed the error saying "check key" so I wiggled it abit and it beeped twice and away we went, the second time it happened it beeped 4 times when I started it and went to limp mode so I shut it on and off a couple of times and it worked after a little playing around with it. The third was not a charm. It wouldn't come back to life after that.

I will try to post the pics tonight. We didn't miss to much riding anyway, we rode hard in the bush all day and when the sun came out we were out playing hard untill it went away. Remember I ran out of gas pulling just after the second pull towing. If you run out of gas riding you had a great day as long as you had spare fuel to get you home that is. And thanks alot for the Belt and tail light. I am just replacing now the belt was toast. And gettting the sled ready for the next trip. Your going to golden on the 18th?
