We have set up a “Needs Accessment Meeting” to review the proposed RR214 Access Corridor

This corridor is a 3km access road RR214 linking Cooking Lake to Ministik

Tri-County Snowmobile Club is proposing a 3km corridor link between Cooking Lake and Ministik Lake.

The following Email has been sent to the County of Strathcona Councilors so ask them questions such as:
- Do they support a snowmobile access corridor in the County of Strathcona?
- Will they Vote in support of this Corridor?

The councilors in ward 7 in Strathcona County that decide on this Corridor are:

Glen Lawrence – Glen is the current councilor and is against the Corridor and against snowmobiling
Also we have worked with him for 8 years trying to get this corridor and still no where…

Don McPherson – Don is a new candidate and fully supports the corridor and outdoor recreation

Strathcona County, Legal Snowmobile Access Trail from Cooking Lake to Ministik Lake.
Snowmobile Corridor Assessment Meeting:
Location: Ministik School, Hwy #14 & Range Road 212 (21246 Hwy14)
Date: October 10, 2007
Time: 7:30pm - 9:00pm
Tri-County Snowmobile Club is reviewing a proposal to put before the County of Strathcona requesting a legal snowmobile access corridor. This meeting is to see how many residents of the County of Strathcona wish to see an access corridor (Needs Study) connecting Cooking Lake to Ministik Lake Bird Sanctuary by way of a legal access corridor down RR214.
This corridor has been used for over 30 years until recently when the County of Strathcona closed all county roads and ditches to motorized vehicles. Tri-County Snowmobile Club is proposing this old existing corridor to legally allow the residents of Strathcona County to access Ministik. By adding this corridor to Ministik, Strathcona residents can access the 65km of maintained, signed & groomed trails, and legally access the Ministik Gas station on Hwy 14 for fuel and supplies.
The trail corridor will be signed, marked and maintained the same as any Alberta Snowmobile Trail that crosses a hi-way, such as the Iron Horse Trail, Whitecourt, Edson and many others. Tri-County Snowmobile Club works together with the County of Strathcona R.C.M.P. and Bylaw Officers to ensure peoples rights are respected, such as the right to recreate in your county, noise, speed, and traffic concerns. All issues to be reviewed and regulated so as to create a family trail system that is safe for everyone.
If you live in Strathcona County and ride on Antler Lake, Hastings Lake, Wanisan Lake or Cooking Lake and wish to use a trail / access corridor legally, to access Ministik Lake Bird Sanctuary then please contact your local Councilor and request support for this corridor. Also bring a friend and attend the Corridor Assessment Meeting to show your support.

Ministik School Meeting Agenda

Survey Needs Assessment Questions:
- Do residents of County of Strathcona wish to Access Ministik?
- How many residents/snowmobilers signed the support/needs form?
- Will an access corridor such as RR214 serve the needs as a corridor?
- What benefits does it bring to the residents of County of Strathcona?
- What economical benefits does it bring to business owners in the County of Strathcona such as?
- Ministik Gas Station.
- Hamlets of South & North Cooking Lake for food and gas.

Tri-Counties input to this study:
- We are looking into a corridor to connect 2 large riding areas Cooking Lake and Ministik.
- Corridor length is about 3km long, running south of Cooking Lake to Ministik.
- That this is a winter corridor connecting bodies of Ice Surfaces and is unusable other than winter.
- Tri-County maintains the 65km of trails in Ministik and will maintain the corridor as well.
- The corridor will be signed, maintained and groomed as per the guidelines of the Alberta Snowmobile Association Trail Manual.
- TCSC will work side by side with the Strathcona R.C.M.P. and Bylaw Officers to follow the legal laws and regulations on the corridor such as:
- Drinking and driving
- Snowmobiles are registered and insured
- Speeding and stunting
- That this becomes a Family Corridor for outdoor recreation within the County of Strathcona.
- That the acceptance of the corridor does not promote open riding through out the County of Strathcona.

For all snowmobilers get out there Wed Night for sure. You dont need to be rude just prove our need for this project. The county rec. meeting on Tues. night was a preview things will be heated about snowmobile trails. Good going Tri-County for taking on this mission. You are fully supported by many users.Had a phone call by the Pres. of P.E.A.R.L or Protect Environment And Rural Lifestyle group and and she seemed to support the need for a way for us to enjoy our rural lifestyle. So far so good. Time and a good attandance will help.

decent turn out for the meeting. majority were pro corridor. I only counted a handful that were against it. You know I live on 524 and 365 days a year have cars trucks and motorcycles "howl" down the road. loud exhaust, no exhaust, screaming around the corners rubber and gravel flying, I would be ecstatic if they would slow down and drive the speed limit. So if traffic is there only concern I say find something else to do than count how many snowmobiles go by on the road. give us a corridor. manage it and police it. living down that same road are also people who do ride snowmobiles. Im done

hats off and thankyou to Tri-county snowmoblie club for the great presentation. Taking into account all the miles of roads in Strathcona County, all that is being asked is to have the needle in the haystack

Meeting went very well. We contacted the landowners and know their issues. Now we get the plan together and do it again and then to the county. Seems like lots but if its important it will get done. Thanks for the NEW tri-county snowmobile club for taking this on. I talked to the councollers and they were impressed. I would like to thank all those that did come out. You took time out of your busy lives to attend a meeting to show your support to a project. This was one of a few meeting you will be asked to attend please continue to help by participating. Thanks

i sure hope this goes thru... it will make it alot easier on the parking lot at ministik with having more options to park and unload

You can't say Glen L. and motorized recreation together its like water and oil. No matter what he said before election he will do every thing in his power and influence to ensure our failure to get this and other connections in the county of strathcona. I could be wrong but his track record is the truth of his position ,go ride on the lakes , private trails , you property or his preferred place A DIFFERENT COUNTY I just about forgot he has the RCMP and county cops on speed dial. He even has to be hassled to get site 33 staging area plowed and if you are forced to park on the road remember the speed dial thing. Should I stop now or do you really want to know how I feel about this

i think if this guy ..would really try to understand THAT we really do care about this sport and the land is for everybody!!..he would change his tune but then again....he really can't see the big picture...its not going to fly..just my two buck worth
