The Switch to a Onesee

In the 80s everyone had the once piece snow suit. I remember them being terrible and always wet and cold. Obviously technology has improved quite a bit since then and what was old is new again it seems.

I have been doing the pants and jacket for the past 15 years. Quite a bit of snow down my backside but for the most part its good. I like as little bulk to wear as possibe though. Not for weight just for comfort really.

Wondering who made the switch back to the one piece and who prefers it?

I have read most of the time they feel overly baggy though if you dont have just the perfect body to fit ratio of size. Also I am not a fan of bibs and I know whats whats inside of them so I doubt i will like it

what can i say. Covid is here and i was recently sent a new klim gear email so of course i had to look.

Most the guys I ride with made the switch and love it
There is still a couple of us running bibs and a jacket.

Maybe my next suit I'll look at a one piece

Coming off 15+ years in klim two piece, I switched 2 seasons ago.
First I tried a 509 mono suit, which didn't quite fit me properly. Then, at the start of last season, I got into a Klim Ripsa.
I like it, probably wont switch back.
I think it critical with mono's to find the perfect fit, two piece is much more forgiving in this way.

Positive:
-I like how light and airy the mono feels.
-gearing up / off seems like a smoother operation.
-opening vents seems way more effective VS a two piece (I think because my mono has a looser fit, with more air between the shell and my carcass).
-Speaking strictly of my Klim Ripsa... the bib / shoulder straps are built very well for me. I quickly forget about their existence.

Negative:
-again.... perfect fit is very important with a mono.
-in very cold weather, a tighter fitting two piece would be warmer I think.

I am on my second tobe mono suit and wont go back to a jacket and bibs. Its like wearing pajamas on the hill, very comfortable and you stay dry, but you have to get the right fit, too small and I could see it being uncomfortable.

I bought the FXR gear that can zip together or stay apart. Never zip it together as I like a bit more air coming in, more free movement and often will want to just wear the jacket after the ride. I think the mono-suite is not needed and more important is quality and fit of what you choose. If you wreck one half or the other it is nice to be able just to replace that piece at 1/2 the price.

Just picked this onesie up for my coming 11 year old. Last years model. $250 taxes in. Should work I think.

I was just at the store when we’re you there? I exchanged my suit from a large to a medium. The large was a bit too roomy. The medium is more my size. Dealt with Kerri. They have a lot of stock. The snow stock is just going out and they don’t have the 2021 line of gloves, goggles, boots, balaclavas in yet for sale. Kerri will text me when it’s in. The stuff seems like great quality.

I picked up a TOBE Vivid Monosuit and absolutely love it (non-insulated). I was skeptical but a couple buddies convinced me to switch over and I wouldn't go back after wearing one for two seasons. I really like the fit of the TOBE compared to the other brands but they aren't nearly as durable as my two-piece Klim outfit.

I switched to a monosuit a couple years ago, have a large klim ripsa, its awesome and dont regret it at all, never will go back to bubs and a coat

We were there this morning but at Adrenaline in Saskatoon.

I bought a TOBE this year, but the suspenders are wayyy to big. Going to have to get them sewn up. There should be a lot more adjustment than the 2" that they only seem to have.

I made the switch last year and definitely won’t go back. I went with a CKX since that’s what my local guy carries and like to support businesses here in town. I tried on an FXR insulated but found it too bulky, the CKX is a mid weight insulation and have no temp issues riding +10 to -20 depending on base layers. As others mentioned the fit is definitely critical.

I just bought an FXR ranger, like Rons but different colours. I found it fit the best for me. I also tried Klim, and Tobe. I ended up with a medium in the FXR, the Tobe was too baggy for my, and the Klim I was between sizes.

About 20 years ago, on a different forum, I was complaining about my expensive, restrictive two piece and said how much I missed the one piece. Man I was called all kinds of names for calling down the standard of the time. Also I remember the colours, everyone looked like someone threw up a pizza on them, I like the way the new suits seem to be heading towards plain colours again.

Quality of the fxr just isnt up to par IMO, my buddy has had two of them, wore the first one two years and had zippers fail and got wet in its second season and his current one is also two seasons old and having the same issues, not as wet as the first one but he said its leaking, i was disappointed as I found it fit better than my klim as i could wear a medium in the fxr so it wasn't as long in the legs and sleeves and same fit in the body as a klim large but i want more longevity than that. My klim is now two seasons old and works as it did day one
