I'm in Cold Lake and took one of the sleds to the store the other day. The store backed on to a wooded area though, and we are allowed to ride from home direct to a trail.

when I was a kid, the RCMP sergeant in town was an avid sledder. he helped to pass bylaws so that you could legally ride on any street in town as long as you stayed at 10 mph while doing so. I used to even ride my '78 300 Citation to school once in a while, lots of kids did. once he moved on, the town went full retard and banned all OHV operation within town limits. the old sergeant's name was Bob Nay, great guy.

I've heard of him before. That name is familiar Tee. I wonder if he ever worked Vulcan, High River or Strathmore?.

Will have to ask around. He could have been in Gleichen as well. They are close to us.

In the 90s you could ride sleds in all the small towns north of Edmonton. We would drive in get fuel go to the bar or restaurants for lunch and beer. Then head back out rippin.

A couple decades ago (or more), in a south/central town in Alberta, late January evening with outside temps below -25C, I borrowed my brother's John Deere 300 to respond to the local ambulance garage for a call. I was an EMT, on call that night. Didn't want to start my car so I fired up the sled and responded down the road to the ambulance garage. My partner arrived after me saying, "hey somebody parked a snowmobile outside". I told him I rode it rather than start the car. Did a (very cold) little evening tour on the sled through a park trail on the way home after.
