The chances of having another coronavirus spread just as fast at the same time is not feasible. Has there been a recent case of another Coronaviruses reported before the pandemic occurred?
Covid-19 is the disease, not the virus. The virus is actually called SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 The virus has a genetic code, and to identify it they use snippets of the DNA.
Have a look on this webpage at paragraph 5. It explains how they refined the process.



I read that there is no specific test for "COVID19" just tests for "corona virus". And apparently corona viruses are everywhere. This would definitely skew the numbers and explain why the symptoms vary so much.
