I'm pretty sure Derek Wood is a gnarly dude

What does that mean? Because he's heavy on the throttle the clutchs automatically begin to crack and then fail? Cat has major design flaws to deal with. To unload a 2018 sled for parts after a failure like that wouldn't sit well for most people. Doesn't instill alot of faith in there product. Has it been crickets from Cat or do they have a long term (fix) for the root cause of these failures? I'm not talking about just replacing parts with same parts to appease the customer.

Derek landed so hard off a cliff jump that his clutch exploded, on a Ski Doo. The guy isnt easy on equiptment. Cat has some ****ty clutches though, no doubt about that.

Im gonna ask a dumb question. Is there not any aftermarket clutches being buit? i mean you can buy just about anything aftermarket now. I for one would be ok with slapping on a billet clutch from an aftermarket company and go enjoy my new sled.

That's true but maybe if we stop buying a sled that has exploding clutches for 4 years in a row they will be more motivated to fix it?

All brand differences aside. This is pretty serious stuff. Peeps need to start holding the manufacturer accountable. Thats why safety warranty bulletins are made.

Absolutely.

That's why I get a kick out of guys that get all pissy when you point something out that breaks often or is something a guy should keep an eye on.

The brand loyalty is a bit much around here.

If it wasn't for this thread I would probably still be picking clutch outta my leg.

Maybe cat is using springs out of the landfill to save $ and the environment at the same time?

I gather this is a newer clutch.
The remainder of the clutch that is intact is back iron.
The spring is painted.
At least this is how my Alpha is.

That looks nasty!!!
Each day you fill it up with oil open up the other side and have a look at your clutches.

For me its the fear of the unknown. You are making a long pull on a hill thinking I wonder if my clutch is going to let go. No difference really when the drive axles were breaking in 2008 on the XP's. Is the axle going to go at the wrong time and my sled is cart wheeling down the hill? With this is you wonder if your leg is going to be amputated in the backcountry somewhere and bleed out? Cat needs to get ahold of this.
