2012 cats were a flop??? Mine sure wasn't. Put over 8000 km on mine and it was running strong when I got rid of it.
You've stated that you're a more casual easy going rider. Ie not the sort to push a chassis to it's shortcomings or have belt issues. I stand by my point of the 2012 being a flop that needed several revisions to get to the point it should have at the start.

2012 was a problem year on some but not all.........many 12's had no issues.

Or the screen kit, but goggles dry super fast with all the drafting that keeps the engine bay really cool.
Even dries gloves pretty fast.

Is there an actual kit or does a guy have to make his own? I was planning to just make my own as I have Frogzskin in order already.

I have the goggle holder but it just doesn’t really seal it up as much as I would like. Especially with there being no snow deflection due to no windshield. Although I’m not sure that would help much anyways.

Ride it and see what happens is probably my best bet. I don’t have a heated trailer to park it in and I’m just worried about ice freezing things up in there.

It is a plastic coarse mesh part by Cat.
Get from dealer.
I have never had freeze up issues even on deep days and just keep google bag there.
