I have bought a few parts there and always questioned their pricing as it always seems higher than anywhere and if you challenge them a bit, they will always come down at least 10%, so you think you are getting a deal. Went in today to get a couple jugs of CTEC2 gal oil and their price was $84.99/jug. Retail on Cats website is $67.

Curious to what would happen if you just ordered it from their website.

BRP used to offer free in store pickup so it was whatever price was on the website.

I haven’t purchased any other OEM stuff from other sites to compare.

https://www.arcticcatparts.ca

If you buy 5 at a time it works out to $76.10 Tax included still cheaper and delivered to your door.

you would have to pay shipping on that 67 so it would be pretty close to the same price no?

I would order online just out of principal. I used to order BRP parts online through Shopify and pay the shipping when my local dealers used parts risers. The funny thing about Shopify is most of the time local dealers fulfill those orders to save shipping costs so the dealers that were marking up their parts for the guy walking in off the street ended up having to sell to me for MSRP.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think we are missing the point. Arctic Cat, just like all manufacturers have a suggested MSRP that they price at the local dealer. You don't add "shipping" or other fees unless you request they ship to your house. So, if you walk into a GM or Ford or Arctic Cat dealer in Calgary or Saskatoon, the MSRP is the same at both locations. Shipping, duties, etc is already taken into account by the manufacturer. I have never seen a dealer take suggested MSRP and then add 20% or 25% to the price, just as normally business.

Yes I can order online from other areas of the country, including the US (I have a US destination) and have stuff shipped, but why if I am willing to pay CAD MSRP??

Am I wrong to think this?

Closed. No other cat dealers in the lower mainland. Closest one is Kelowna.

MSRP isn't set in stone and many factors can come into play. Shipping, overhead etc. 20% is probably common

Local dealer sells msrp, dealer 60 km west, sells MSRP plus 20%, don't go there much unless local doesn't have. don't think they are that busy now! don't know why.

So, the fact they are making 40%? markup on parts isn't enough, so they need to add another 20%?

If so, online is the way to go. Saves me the hassle of driving in traffic I guess.

I recall a dealer telling me once that Cat doesn't give them the same discount on oil as they get on parts and accessories. He made it sound like there was not much margin in oil....maybe BS....I don't know.

I wonder, to the OP, are they just marking up items like oil or are marking up all their parts over MSRP?

Its the same with BRP Cat. I believe a 17% margin on oil is all. All other parts are 20-45% depending on whether engine parts or body parts.

so, there is probably the answer on why the dealer is marking up oil over msrp
