Have been wearing a tek vest for last several years but looking for a bit more coverage ...
Figured only diehards are still here this time of year so would be a good time to ask ...
Looking at some of the motocross pullovers and bottoms - any suggestions that offers great coverage but isnt too hot or are most hard surface setups pretty similar?

used a sixonesix upper compression suit/jacket for years, worked great and was glad to have it a few times for sure.. changed it up and went with a Troy Lee pullover with the shockdoctor pads (hot weather 7855 long sleeve), really like the fit and superior coverage of it so far. As far as bottoms I've been using the same Alpinestars knee braces for prob 3-4 seasons, work great, plan to keep using them as they have proven to work many times for me, some people say its overkill but I'm happy to have knees that still work after a wipeout!

I wear the Troy lee armour too. It is pretty hot in the summer on the dirt bike.

But it’s good in the winter. But it’s not really hard armour around the body.

It makes my muscles look bigger, like I’m on roids, while I’m sitting around the cabin!

Although I don't own any (still using TekVest) Leatt has my attention and would be the one I would look at next.

This is a great thread and topic of conversation... I’m interested in a decent “sledding” type of protective system. TLD stuff looks very nice, no extra buckles etc to poke you in the sides. I’d also be interested to know what people have tried for neck brace combos and helmets. I don’t think a person needs motocross level of protection, but it needs to be light and maneuverable under sled clothing (I pack too much **** as it is!)

I wear a Leatt GPX neck brace with my 509 Carbon Fiber helmet. Works great with my BCA Mountain Pro Vest. I wear it on the outside of my jacket and under the vest. I used to wear six six one body amour prior to going to the vest style backpack. I find it too hot with both.

Sooooo... anyone try hockey gear? I don't play so just wondering if any if it would work for riding? Most of the moto stuff seems to be individual pieces rather than a set.

Hockey gear wouldn't be a good choice as the shoulder pads are to big and would pose a problem fitting under most sled coats and onezies, as many of the people above have mentioned there are many one piece options made by almost all the motocross gear manufacturers. I use a fox full one piece set up for dirt biking and its great and offers full protection of my spine, chest, shoulders and elbows as well as some what of a kidney belt. I don't wear it sledding as its a little warm and i don't find the chest protection adequate for me due to the zipper in the centre of the chest. I use the fox raptor chest protector for sledding as the chest protection is far better and it also has side protection and all that helps with chest impacts being disbursed over a greater area... before deciding on the fox raptor i tried on the Liat air frame and its a great piece but as its soft and not a molded piece it didn't offer enough impact protection for me. just my experiences and opinions, good luck with your choice and any protection is better than no protection

The tec vest is great & reasonably comfortable witj base layer under and shell over but looking for options that offer knee / elbow / shoulder / shin type coverage.

I had a klim tec vest a few yrs ago, wore it a few ties and found it way to hot for me and again soft shell and split with a zipper in the middle.... for me i have hammered my bars way to often and found the hard shell far superior for those particular impacts. but then again these are my experiences and everyone has there preferences. I have friends that wear the BCA avy bag tec vest combo and love them... and as far as protection for the rest of your body again there are many options available again its all preference.

Nope. In the trees mostly but the black spruce we ride in tend to have hard, sharp protrusions where boughs have broken off .... I imagine thats It's a bit like continuous jousting.
