Real World Info - Mountain Cat 154 or 154 Doo

So on the fence here. I have no friends that have seat time on either. I am going to purchase before the end of the month...

Please no slander...Pros and Cons Please.

Well I can tell you it is very hard to keep the skis down on the doo.

So if you are looking for full rodeo mode that is your best bet.

Cats rear skid is a little more adjustable.

I take people on tours in the Fernie area. A lot of the guys are from Saskatchewan and they are in a difficult situation with track length; a 163" doesn't work well on the prairies and the 154" suits their needs in the low snow conditions. The good riders have no real trouble with the 154" in the mountains, generally speaking. Yes, when it is too deep or too steep there is a problem. Most of these guys have Doo's and very few have a Cat. Last year, the new Cats, that were 153" didn't perform like the Doo's but IMHO, that was a lack of rider talent.

Well I have never owned on a cat before...decided to give one a try since I like the Sidewinder chassis and handling characteristics so much. I picked up a leftover 2018 m8000 162 from Trish&Richard at Precision Powersports in Lethbridge (Awesome Service there btw)

Man it’s a blast to ride...I’m 6’5” 235 plus gear so I figured it’s going to be a wheelie monster for me, but it was impressive how the skis stayed down. I set the qs3 shocks similar to what I learned with the 174 Sidewinder. Skis 75psi rear skid center 75psi and rear 175psi. Set them on 2 the first day and 1 the second day. It so responsive and nimble....couldn’t believe some of the maneuvers I was pulling off!!!!!

Throttle response was very quick....Power was really good...need a few more hours to get it fully off break in. We like riding steep trees and this thing Hugs the hills...unlike my T3 that would wash out constantly. Very impressed with my first cat For sure!!!!!

Yeah we did it like the day after he picked it up. Avid drivers also. Best upgrade to that sled ....it rips.

You going to slap a turbo in that ascender, my buddy is running a sidekick and holy, its sweet. The lighter weight makes me very envious with a season like we are having.

nope...just going to ride it rest of this season and see what Yamaha is going to do..pictures floating around of a 2 stroke Yamaha. Hmmmm

Like you say the snow hasn’t been great lately, but this sled is fun.

A 162" is a much different sled than the 153". He was asking about a 153" Cat.

forsure ...wasn’t posting just for that but a overall feel of the sled. I assuming he wasn’t just wondering about the track.

You should just try to ride them back to back, i'm willing to say you will much prefer the Cat when it comes to ride and handling. The Doo power is nice at first but its short coming's become apparent when you spend the day on it. The Ascender and Alpha flat out work and still maintain their mannerism in all conditions.
But you be the ultimate judge by trying them first to see what suits you and fits you better and don't let me or anyone else persuade you.

Just wondering why your not considering Polaris also?

Both have their pros, both have there cons. I have not been on a 154, but I have been on both 165 series including a alpha, I personally liked the alpha over the mtn Cat.
Imo its the service after the sale that you should seriously consider.

i read it as the guys riding the cats were not very talented so that was maybe why the sled did not perform as well as the doo

Best thing about cat and polaris is they actually side hill.
