We live in a world of extreme sports. Seems most of what we do and others is done for a little piece of the "attention" pie. Listen at the cabin and most sentences will start with DID YOU SEE or MAN I JUST MISSED etc. Has become part of our daily routine. Mostly we will have to let it go and hope for the best. Government intervention will mean mountain ranges CLOSED to all Recreational traffic. Quick and done with a swipe of a pen. Sars is doing a wonderful job of rescuing us and I hope they continue to the best of their abilities. An honorable voluntary desire to help people. It will of coarse change when its on the news that Sars couldn't make it to another person in need because they were tied up on other rescues that day. In the end you will have to hope that the rescuers are HEADED your way that day. Accidents happen but we really do need to play safe.

I have the 100k GEOS SAR policy now.
So if SAR every has to rescue me please make out an invoice for 100k.

Because Damn if I ever need SAR I'm gonna be in a ****-ton of real world trouble!

The problem is all the young extreme riders on those sled movies. We all think we can ride like that! Lets all just stick to the groomed trails folks and everything will be fine.

Typically you would only need this coverage in the US where you could be billed for a rescue. My understanding anyway.

Yeah only $30 USD per year for a $100k coverage. Figure if a guy every gets a bill for a air ambulance or something it would be worth it.

Or if am vacationing in a tropical 3rd world country and need out asap.

You got that right. Guys new to the sport watch Thunderstruck and skip all the talking parts and miss them they say they have been waiting 8 years for Avy conditions to allow them to climb that face. Or watch Burandt say the sled makes him comfortable in an uncomfortable situation, but not bother to buy the DVD where he explains safe riding and practicing and knowing your abilities.

Maybe I watched too many of them soldier movies as a kid or maybe I ride with the wrong people but I agree. SAR is only gonna be called as a last resort. We got ourselves in this mess. Let's get ourselves out. Had a few riding buddies self rescued out of ugly situations. "Take these 3 percocets and wash it down with the last of the fireball cause the next 2 hours is gonna hurt like hell"

Exactly. Way back at Ram Creek I gave my last two Percocet to a friend with a bad ankle. Doubled him trough some of the technical stuff and when the drugs kicked in he was able to ride the 40 or 50 km back to the truck. Ride through the pain if at all possible.

Knocking down pain is a big deal when you’re trying to get an injured buddy out of the woods.

Before my mother passed she was on some pretty intense meds. I got her to set my avy bag up for just these situations. I have morphine and Percocet in a pill bottle that is vacuum sealed and kept in my pack for these exact situations. I have never needed them but I know that if they are needed I will be very happy to have them. Items like this are what make me laugh at the guys with 6 beer, one watter bottle and a pack of beef jerky in their packs..... GOOD LUCK BUD!

Been in the mountains for about 15 yrs and we haven't needed sar yet but I would write a chq for a 1000 or more to help this group of people that risk so much for us. We do carry a lot of extra gear to make sure we can get out plus we have helped lots of other groups,but there are alot of great peaple I have met that will stop by and help if needed.
