Does anyone know where to get GPS’s in red deer? Looking for a Garmin Rino or the Garmin Inreach

In reach is a gps,radio and sat phone and the Rino is just gps and radio correct?

Inreach is not a sat phone or radio. It is a gps with the ability to send texts and also a emergency locator.

tough call between the two.
in reach is nice for emergencies
rino is nice for radio capabilities.
Can anyone who has used both offer a opinion
I don’t have an inreach but i do have a rino 650.
My opinion is the rino is over rated.
The 650 screen is small and other than the peer tracking it is the same as a gps I had 10 years ago. But we never really use the tracking. And most times I try it I’m out of range.
My group also has Buafengs, for radios. With good group management and communication we have little use for the tracking of the rino
Battery life is good.

I use both and have for quite a few years now. The inReach is better than SPOT in that there can be two-way text communication. I use my inReach to send pre-set messages as to when I'm starting my trip, when I'm finished my trip, and the third is that I will be delayed but not in trouble. You can pair with your phone and use the phones' key board for easier typing. It is my emergency electronics if I ever need it.
The Rino is used for a GPS, marking way points, and using a map of a new area. It is also one of my communication devices within a group of riders. I also use a radio. I really like the "polling" aspect of the Garmin products in that in communication with other Garmin products, you can see where your buddies are as soon as they key the mic.
I don't go into the back country without both.

Can the Inreach mark way points as well? I’m really leaning towards the Inreach

I have an inreach, before garmin bought them, and carry seperate radio and gps mounted to sled. Won't go sledding in the back country with out all three. I'm not a fan of the gps on my inreach.

It doesn't mark way-points (at least mine doesn't), Maybe a new model does but there is no mapping in the inReach. The inReach or SPOT is for emergency communication.
If you want mapping, way-points, and tracking, you need a GPS. Some have radios, some don't. The polling feature as I talked about above it neat with the Garmin/Rino.
Like Rbrduk says, all three. Radio, GPS, and inReach. You can combine the radio and the GPS into one unit.

They both have way point capabilities. The explorer has base topo maps installed. The SE is a base tracker, no maps.

ill be picking up the Inreach today at GPS city.
i have the Bao Feng radios but found they are not working as good as I hope. I most likely do not have them set up properly

Yes, but not the same feature as the Rino. You can send a way-point but you can't retrieve it to the screen. You can also have tracking but I think that is $99/year above the cost of the cheapest program at about $40/year.

The explorer has full fledged gps. Check out the link I posted earlier. At ~$600, it better be able to get me back to the truck.

Wow, we are talking about two different gadgets. I'm down in the $200 range with the SE.

i have my rhino away...good idea but battery sucks. Buy a Garmin legend if you want a good little old school gps. I believe that some things you can combine but a Wally tally and gps should be separate.

The spot device is useful for letting other know where you are. But no two way communication.
The Garmin radios are good in the field as walkie/talkies and have a good range but the screens are small and hard to locate lost people.
The newest in reach has a small screen (so not that good for navigation) but is good for two way texting.
The Garmin st64 is the best gps i've seen for navigation but there may be some better with bigger screens.
So i'm a safety oriented rider who currently carries a Rhino for group communication for distance, a BCA on my shoulder for close talk. A Garmin st64 for navigation.
And an in reach device for emergency communication.
Ultimately a sat phone is the best but the most expensive.
I also think that training is important to your safety. Get as much professional training as you can!!!

Keep your group safe out there.
