Ask me about a sled product or sled company, turbo companies included, and I will give you my honest opinion.

Bought a brand new sled and want to go faster? I'll give you my opinion no problem.
I want to share my knowledge with my fellow sledders. Im not selling or promoting anything and I don't get chit from any supplier or company. This is both exciting and exhilarating!
My answers may not be correct, I might not know and I may be wrong sometimes.

My 1993 safari 340 fan cooled runs fine for the first 10 minutes then bogs at full throttle. It’s not the carb, those have been gone through multiple times now. I have an idea of what it might be but I’m always looking for opinions from professional internet mechanics!

Problem-Grandpas sled is ill.
Prognosis-Water in fuel.
Solution-Drain and clean fuel tank really good. Empty fuel tank, don't use the fuel in any other motor, add couple litres of fresh 94 fuel, swish around, dump out fuel. Do this twice or more.
Change fuel lines, fill with Chevron 94. Use only Chevron 94 forever.

Routinely park old sled (no reverse) closest to 100 year old lean-too door at end of every season.
Dad "gets sick of tripping over" sled whenever he "needs" to go into shed (my solution: stay out of shed)
Eventually gets annoyed enough to move sled all the way to the front of said shed and leaves me to drag it out at beginning of season.
Drag sled out (rotten 100 year old floor boards - does not slide easily/ can't use casters) with rusty trusty old 3/4 tonne and chain.
The whole process takes a good half hour by the time I locate keys and a chain and that's valuable time that could be spent riding or wrenching.

How do I keep dad from ramming the pool sled all the way into the front of the shed every year? :confused:

EDIT: shed is narrow - can't spin it around and drive out.

Thanks for the tips. I haven’t emptied the tank but the old girl got new fuel lines last season. I think I’ll just stick to runnin her 10 minutes at a time.

My 2003 rx-1 if it sits more than a week, the only way to start it is with rag soaked in gas over the carbs. Once started she’s a four stroke rocket for the rest of the day. Should I use chevron 94 on my gas rag?

How do I make my 17 g4 wheelie less ? Without replacing the whole skid if that’s even possible? Would like to keep a little more track on the snow when climbing if possible

No 94 gas rag. Set parking brake. Spray liquid start into carbs while cranking over. Gas rag is too messy and now ya got stinky hands for the rest of the day. Heck, don't even take the airbox off. Just spray dat chit right into the air filter. I wonder if the can had like a wd40 straw, if you could poke it thru the filter if it was a foam type?
Once started, you are permitted to run 94.

Move all weight like tools etc. as forward as possible.
Shorten limiter strap.
Loosen the front track shock.
Install torsion spring uhmw spacer thingies.
Squeeze the brake a bit instead of burping the throttle on a big climb to help backshift, bring skis down and get more traction.
If packing gas, put it in the tank as soon as you can to move weight forward.
Change gearing to 19/51 or 19/53 for more traction.
Some expensive options-If there is a rear shock setup with a shock lockout, install it and when you need the skis down for a climb, lock the shock out.
Or a racers edge suspension with a shock that has lockout.
G4"s are pretty hard to tame.
Ride the snot out of it and try to blow her up while still on warranty. The engines are only lasting maybe 2500km.

I’ll start with the limiter strap and shock adjustment I usually dump my gas can in at the gas drop and just broke 2000km so guess we will see if she makes it till Christmas I went through 3 engines on my 16 so I know all about skidoo reliability

If your serious about fixing it there are a few reason your sled will run this way. Its a carb. problem and 2 strokes that bog indicates running rich.
Back in the day Ski-doo were all jetted heavy, simply because they were meant to operate in COLD temperatures. The motor will run great but as the temperature goes up the fuel is too heavy thus a bog.
You most likely need to rejet the carb for your area and temps.

If it ran good till just recently, then most likely you have an issue with the cold start circuit of the carb. Your sled will either have a "primer" or a "choke".
It doesn't matter which one but basically fuel is being pulled past the primer seal, if its a primer or past the choke plunger if its a choke. The year of this thing would not surprise me if the seals are pooched.

Sorry Kdog, for hijacking but seriously your answer too help sucked.

PS smc, ignor the 94oct bs, 87 will work in your sled.
